Busy week for court

Another busy week for court dates:

(1)  Monday

A court  date for Father Linus Bastien in Chatham, Ontario tomorrow morning.  This is on the Chatham charges:

09:00 am,  Monday, 04 February 2013, “to be spoken to,”  Chatham, Ontario courthouse (425 Grand Ave. W.)

I encourage those who are within driving distance and free to attend to please go.  It will probably be over in the twinkle of an eye with the setting of another date, and chances are fairly high that Father Bastien will not be in attendance, but it really is worthwhile getting to know how charges lumber their way through the system, and it is always always important for the complainants and their families to know that there are others who care.

(2)  Tuesday

A court date for Father John Sullivan in North Bay, Ontario

 09:30 am,  Tuesday 05  February 2013, courtroom  # 101, “to be spoken to,” North Bay, Ontario court house (360 Plouffe Street)

I doubt again that Father Sullivan will be making the trip from Montreal to North Bay for this courtdate, but, as I always say, one never knows!

Please keep the complainant in your prayers.  If you are free to attend please do pop into the courthouse to see what happens and give us an update.

(3)  Wednesday

Wednesday 06 February marks the start of a two0day preliminary hearing for Father Rene Labelle:

10 am, Wednesday, 0)6 February 2013, Kingston Ontario Courthouse, 279 Wellington St. .

This is a preliminary hearing to determine if the judge agrees there is enough evidence to go to trial.  It is a little like a mini trial.  Father Labelle will be in attendance as will those witnesses who may be called to testify.  It is open to the public.

As with all preliminary hearings in Canada there will be a publication ban on all testimony and evidence.  That means that, for example,  no one can report what a witness said, or about a document entered into evidence .  The only things which can be reported are such things as the number of people in the courtroom, what Father Labelle was wearing and his general demeanor.

I encourage those who can do so to attend, both to support the complainant and to follow the proceedings.   Weather permitting I am hoping to get there for at least a few hours on one of the two days.

(4)  Thursday

Father Eric Dejager has another court date on his Edmonton Alberta charges:

09:00 am, Thursday 07 February 2013, courtroom # 356, “to set a date,” Edmonton Alberta courthouse

You may recall that there was supposed to be a preliminary hearing 20-21 December 2013 – whatever happened it didn’t get off the ground.  This upcoming date is supposed to be “to set a date,” which may mean setting a new date for a preliminary hearing, but may be just setting another date to set another date.  I doubt that Father Dejaeger will be flown out of Iqaluit for this.

Once again, please keep the complainants in your prayers.  If you can get down to the courthouse to find out what’s happening please do.
