More than 120 lawsuits accuse retired priest Louis Brouillard, 96, of sexually abusing childrenPacific Daily News

Former Archdiocese of Agana Chancellor Adrian Cristobal has been accused of sexually abusing and raping a Catholic school student for about 18 years, from 1995 through 2013 at two parishes, the school, the priest’s residence, his vehicle, and in his private beach in Ipan, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court on Monday.

This is the second time Cristobal has been accused in a clergy sex abuse lawsuit. The first lawsuit naming him was filed in April.

Cristobal is currently a priest on a mission to the Diocese of Phoenix in Arizona.

The church has said Cristobal was being called back to Guam as a result of the April lawsuit. As of press time, the church was unable to provide an update on whether Cristobal has returned to the island.

Abuse happened almost every day

The latest lawsuit is filed by a plaintiff identified in court documents only as J.C.C. to protect his privacy.

J.C.C., represented by attorney David Lujan, said in his lawsuit that for the first few years, the sexual abuse happened almost every day.

J.C.C. and his family were parishioners at San Vicente Ferrer/San Roke Catholic Church in Barrigada. In 1995, when J.C.C. was about 11 years old, he became a student at San Vicente Catholic School in Barrigada and began serving as an altar boy at the Barrigada parish.

“Over a period of more than 15 years, from approximately 1995 thru 2013, starting at the age of 11, and ending at the age of about 25, J.C.C. was repeatedly sexually molested and abused by Fr. Adrian,” the lawsuit states. “The sexual abuse included fondling, groping, masturbation, oral copulation, digital penetration and penetration.”

Abuse happened at several places

The abuse, according to the lawsuit, happened at several places, including San Vicente School, Barrigada parish, Maina parish, Cristobal’s residence and in his vehicle, as well as at his private beach in Ipan.

As the sexual abuse progressed, J.C.C. would try to fight off the priest by telling him to stop and try to run, but the priest would block him, the lawsuit states.

During overnight retreats at the priest’s private beach in Ipan, he would also abuse J.C.C., the lawsuit states. Those overnight retreats included other priests and deacons, as well as parents of some other boys, the complaint states.

Kept silent out of shame, embarrassment

J.C.C.’s lawsuit says he kept silent about the sexual abuse because he was ashamed and embarrassed.

“He did not know how to handle the pain he was enduring and began acting out, rebelling, and using drugs, which resulted in J.C.C. getting kicked out of San Vicente School,” the lawsuit states.

He quit being an altar boy in 1997 or 1998 when he was about 14 or 15 but had to attend confirmation classes every week, in which Cristobal was actively involved, so the abuse continued, the complaint states.

J.C.C.’s lawsuit states he obeyed Cristobal’s requests to help the priest around the Barrigada parish because his family didn’t have much money and Cristobal agreed to pay J.C.C. to help. There were numerous occasions when the priest would not pay J.C.C. until after the sexual acts, the lawsuit states.

Cristobal took advantage of drug problem

The $5 million lawsuit states J.C.C.’s drug problem, to self-medicate as a result of the abuse, got worse.

“When Fr. Adrian learned that J.C.C. had a drug problem he took advantage of it, and would use the money to lure J.C.C. in, in exchange for sexual pleasure,” the lawsuit states. The abuse continued until J.C.C. was about 25 years old, the lawsuit states

This is the 167th child sexual abuse filed in local and federal court against the Archdiocese of Agana, priests, clergy, religious organizations and others associated with the Catholic Church.
