English summary is followed by flemish text published – Vandaag.be April 20, 2011

Heading: Vangheluwe: Abused Altarboy commit suicide

    Summary (in point form):
    1. One of 2 altarboys who were reportedly abused by Rober Vangheluwe at a youthcamp in the 1960s, is no longer alive (Note: Vangheluwe was supervisor at church youth camp for altarboys)
    2. This altarboy commit suicide as an adult
    3. Additional charges may be laid against Vangheluwe. The person who brought this forward for prosecution was a fellow altarboy who observed the actions of Vangheluwe. He is not believed to be a victim of Vangheluwe

Heading: ”If Vergheluwe were my patient, I would require his silence”

Summary (in point form) followed by full text in flemish:

    1. Belgian psychiatrist Paul Cosyns is not shocked by interview Vangheluwe ”He demonstrates behaviours which show he is still untreated. It is classic behaviour for sexual delinquents”.

    2. Since 1993, Dr Coysens is chief of the University Forensic Centre which coordinates and supervises treatment of all sexual delinquents and pedofiles in Vlaanders (flemish Belgium).

    3. By giving an interview, Vangheluwe demonstrates he has no insight into the scope and depth of his pathology. Typically patients are asked to write letter to those they victimized. This gives a preliminary indication if insight and healing has occurred. Insight takes a long time.

    4. If he were my patient I would require his silence. Speaking does not benefit his victims nor him.

‘Nee’, zegt Paul Cosyns.

Minimaliseren zulke mensen hun daden altijd?
