A priest who has worked at several churches in southern Ontario is facing a sexual assault charge connected to an allegation from 1984.

James (Jim) Boudreau, 67, was arrested and charged by Guelph police on Wednesday.

Guelph police have been investigating an allegation of sexual impropriety since December, police said in a release.

The alleged sexual assault occurred in 1984 while Boudreau was a pastor at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Guelph, police said.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 1.
