Recreation professionals will be gathering in St. John’s for the annual Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador conference on May 31.

The conference, which includes an annual general meeting, features a range of education sessions aimed at people working in the recreation industry, said Recreation Newfoundland Labrador president Ian Flynn.

“The scope of sessions being offered is very valuable for recreation people and will provide them with the opportunity to discuss and develop important aspects of recreation,” he said.

Keynote speaker Ben Barry will focus on entrepreneurship and diversity. Other highlights of the conference include a two-day professional management certificate on Recreation and Parks management.

Other sessions will focus on the health and safety of children, with a focus on healthy eating programs and nature-based play for children’s development.

In addition to the education and information sessions, a trade show is also being planned.

A banquet and annual provincial recreation awards ceremony will end the conference.

Will those gathered in St. John’s be given explanation as to why the centre in St. John’s sees fit to have Raymond Gareth, a convicted sexual predator, in its employ? and will Dr. Pafery perhaps explain how hiring sexual predators promotes the health and safety of children?

  2. Elaine says:

Sylvia, I bet the topic of having a convicted sex offender won’t even be acknowledged!
This would not be suprising. They all want to keep this quiet !
