A former teacher at St. John Bosco school on  Shea  Heights  will go to trial Jan. 29 in Newfoundland Supreme Court on two sex-related charges and one charge of assault.

Raymond Gareth Standford, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned Friday in Supreme Court.  He is represented by lawyer Steve Marshall.

Mr. Stanford was charged in May with one count of assault, one count of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault.  All charges involved one complainant, a former student at St. John Bosco, who is now 21 years old.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between Jan. 4 1983 and Dec. 31, 1986.

The accused has been suspended from his job without pay since he was charged, pending disposition of the charges.

His trial by judge without a jury is expected to last for three days.
