APTN National News
The trial of a former residential school staff member and sex offender continued in central Saskatchewan.
Paul Leroux recently took the stand to defend himself against more sexual assault allegations.
APTN’s Larissa Burnouf has more on this case.
I tried, but have been unable to place the video clip right there at the top of the page. Click on the link above for more info on the Paul Leroux trial. I do like to post the clips as part of the site only to ensure that they remain part of the record. Media outlets leave clips on their sites for varying periods of time, but, once the clip is removed the video can no longer be accessed. I can’t do it, so this is the next best thing – a link to the video, for now 🙂
Mention is again made of the fact that victims were all male and ranged in age from three to 18. The sexual abuse inflicted covered the gamut.
There is reference to allegations made by witnesses of sex abuse by elderly priests and nuns at the school. Leroux apparently scoffed at the idea, saying that he was there and that was impossible or he would have known about it. He apparently also joked about the physical capabilities of these people who would have been in their 60s to 80s at the time.
Did Leroux know about Father Norbert Dufault? True, Dufualt wasn’t any 60- or 80- years of age when he was there, but he was charged – entered a guilty plea.
I came across a legal document regarding charges which were filed against a female employee of the school from around the same time. The woman was acquitted. I have been debating whether or not to post this. The woman is not identified by name. Neither is the male complainant.
When I watched this APTN video clip and heard of the allegations of sex abuse against other staff at the school, I thought of the document.
I am still trying to decide whether or not to post the document. Would anything be gained by posting this document?
Perhaps I will wait until we hear more abut the other sex abuse allegations which were made by witnesses regarding other staff at the school?
