Police in York Region say that more than 100 men have been arrested in connection with a multi-year investigation into human trafficking involving children.

According to police, the suspects were all arrested in York Region, though many originate from across the GTA and Ontario.

The suspects are all accused attempting to purchase sex from a prostituted child that they knew was under the age of 16.

Investigators are expected to provide more details on the investigation at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow.

YRP Deputy Chief Tom Carrique and Det. Sgt. Thai Truong will be on hand along with Susan Orlando from the Ministry of the Attorney General.

York police say they’ve arrested more than 100 men for purchasing prostituted children.

In a press release on Thursday, police said they have completed a multi-year operation that resulted in a large number of arrests.

Most of the arrests took place in York Region but the men who were arrested came from across the GTA and outside of Ontario, police said.

Police declined to provide further details, saying more would be revealed at a Friday morning news conference.

Const. Andy Pattenden credited investigators for their work on the investigation.

“It’s what they do and they’re passionate about it. The team in our vice unit is second to none and they’ve been recognized for their efforts. It’s the work that they do and it’s challenging work and you’re going to see some of the results of that work tomorrow,” said Pattenden

The project was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, police said.

More than 100 men accused of purchasing prostituted children have been arrested after a multi-year investigation in York Region.

York Regional Police said Thursday said the suspects are from York Region, throughout the Greater Toronto Area as well as outside of the province.

Const. Andy Pattenden declined to provide further details, but said more information would be revealed at a Friday morning press conference.

“Investigators with our vice unit are dedicated, have been recognized nationally for their work in rescuing victims of human trafficking,” he said. “Tomorrow’s press conference will be more evidence of that.”

Police will also provide information on how the investigation was launched and ongoing efforts to combat child sex trafficking.

Deputy Chief Tom Carrique, Det.-Sgt. Thai Truong and Susan Orlando the provincial coordinator of the Attorney General’s human trafficking prosecution team will all be in attendance.

Police said the investigation was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

    I must admit that at first I read the articiels which read that the arrests were of men who were “purchasing prostituted children” I thought it meant these children were literally being sold. That was alarming, but didn’t quite make sense. So, hunted around a bit for more info and found the first of the above articles which specifies that the accused were all “attempting to purchase sex from a prostituted child that they knew was under the age of 16.”
