CBC TV Interview with former Supreme Court Justice Michel Bastarache

This is an audio recording of a 04 June 2012 CBC TV video clip – an interview of former Supreme Court Justice Michel Bastarache by Harry Forestell regarding the Archdiocese of Moncton, New Brunswick’s “conciliation” process.  The ‘need’ for such a process stems from sex abuse allegations against Father Camille Leger (now deceased.) Mr. Bastarche was retained by Moncton’s Archbishop Richard to conduct the conciliation process. The process extends beyond victims of Father Leger – an invitation has been extended to all victims to participate in the process)(Photo: Radio-Canada.ca) The announcement of this “conciliation” process came after Normand Brun, a victim of Father Leger, came forward and reported that he had received a pay-off (amount undisclosed) from the archdiocese in 1997. Prior to this, and as of March 2012, the only public offer from the archdiocese to the Father Leger victims was for counselling.

  1. Sylvia says:

Do you hear that?  90 victims from the Diocese of Bathurst! 90!

Does anyone know how many of those 90 victims reported to diocesan officials about their abuser only to get the cold shoulder?

Doe anyone know how many of those known molesters were recycled and children willfully put at risk?

Does anyone know how many of those 90 were molested AFTER diocesan officials were made aware that their molester was in fact a sexual predator, and that they in turn were willfully placed at risk and in fact molested?

Is there a little corner somewhere in Mr. Bastarche’s “grid” for victims who were molested by a recyled molester? Is there, I wonder?  or does that fall outside the “grid” lines?

Does anyone know the names of priests who may have been/were informed of the identity of an abuser and told the victim or his/her family to forgive and forget?

How many priests or ex-priests, both living and dead, in or from the Diocese of Bastarache have been identified to Mr. Bastarache and/or Bishop Valery Vienneau as predators?

How much is the Archdiocese of Moncton paying Michel Bastarche?

What a despicable lark this all is.  I truly wish I could see this otherwise, but I can’t.

We’re honestly to believe that Mr. Bastarche is independent, and he isn’t working for the diocese, —and he isn’t working for the victims either?  Who the heck is he working for?  It’s certainly not for the greater good, …..unless of course one views keeping dirty secrets under lock and key a greater good?

And don’t ‘they’ love the shame of the victims which keeps them afraid?

Were there really 95% of those victims who settled through the Bastarche/Bathusrt deal who hadn’t told their wives or children?  I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been told now.  It’s easier I think once the victim knows they are believed, and what is the pay-off other than proof to the victim that none other than “the Church” believes him/her?

Anyway, it’s all plain downright disgusting.

  2. Baspuits says:

How come the CBC reporter did not say WOW, did you just say if they sue, they have to Identify themselves! Since when?
We all know they only use initial for victims, in the court proceedings, either criminal or civil suit!
So now tell me again, that he is really independent of the diocese……
Remind me of a magician start up line: nothing up my sleeves…..

  3. Conrad Brideau says:

May I stress the importance of having your above questions answered by Michel Bastarache, forget trying getting answer from the diocese they don’t usually answer the phone!
