Priest gets 90 days for sex abuse

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (CP)
A Roman Catholic priest who says he was once abused by a priest has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for molesting two boys.
Father Douglas Stamp, 45, was sentenced Tuesday on two counts of indecent assault for fondling two 12-year-old boys at St. Alphonsus Church in Peterborough from 1979 to 1983.
He pleaded guilty last week and apologized to his victims and parishioners. He’ll serve his time on weekends at Mimico Correctional Centre in Toronto and then be on probation for one year.
Stamp was charged after one of the victims saw him on a national TV news program in 1995 defending the church’s position during the Mount Cashel affair, in which the Christian Brothers were convicted of sexually assaulting boys under their care at a Newfoundland orphanage.
The victim phoned Stamp, who at the time was chancellor of the archdiocese of St. John’s, Nfld.
The father of one of the victims said the assaults have been difficult for his son, but he called the sentence “fair.”
Stamp will remain a priest, but has been reassigned to office duties with his Redemptorist order.
He says he was sexually assaulted on three occasions in 1969 and 1970 by the late Father Jim Hickey in Newfoundland. Hickey was convicted of 55 sex charges involving boys before he died in 1992.
End of document.
…Abuser priest training another abuser, training another abuser, training…How far back could evidence like this be uncovered?…How far up as well?…and how much of society has been similarly impacted?… by their “earthly mess”!!!
…and we wonder why “they” are covering up, why the increasing scandal all over the globe?!!!…
…uncontrollable head-shaking!!!…I’m numb!
To read this on Sunday!…
Do you know if this priest is stil alive?
I personally don’t know if he is still alive Alice.
Can anyone out there help?
He is still alive and received a severance package – he is no longer a redemptorist nor priest
Thank you Anon. Do you have any idea when he was defrocked/laicized?
I believe within the last 2 years – nearly positive less than 4 years. I will try and find out specific date.
A 1980 picture of Father Douglas Stamp has been added to the page above.
Also, good news for his victims: I have received confirmation that Douglas Stamp was laicized in 2015. He is now MR. Douglas Stamp.
Thank you for your work on this, Sylvia! Your efforts are always appreciated
You may want to check out St. Patrick’s Church in Toronto. May be a current connection.
Douglas Stamp lives with a man in one of the apartments on St. Patrick’s Street behind St. Patrick’s church, Toronto. The birds of a feather do get together.
Hi Sylvia,
Keep an eye out in St. Patrick’s Church in Toronto these days. You may be interested. I believe there is a current connection in some way.
Weird!!!
Doug Stamp kissed my 6 yr old son’s cheek during catechism lessons @ St Alphonsus in Peterborough. It gave me the creeps. I never let Doug be alone with him. Doug avoided me and in site of how friendly he was to others – he consistently avoided me. My wife thought I was crazy – but history shows i was right. He was a F^%$#%g pedophile
He was also at Our Lady of Assumption on Bathurst Street Toronto then he wasn’t maybe 1991 1992 as my cousin mentioned yrs later that he was tried asked if there was any talk in the parish I didnot socialize their and was lapsing I only add this as read article in news recently about the London site
