QUEBEC – The Crown has formally filed its request for permission to appeal the sentence imposed on the priest pedophile Raymond-Marie Lavoie.

After pleading guilty to 21 charges for sexual acts on minors 13 boys, the Redemptorist was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Judge Chantal Pelletier.

In his motion for leave to appeal, the Crown prosecutor Carmen Rioux said the judge imposed a sentence Pelletier unreasonable Raymond-Marie Lavoie, because it took insufficient account of disincentives and exemplary similar sentence.

The prosecutor also accused him of having distorted the concept of abuse of trust or authority in assessing the penalty and have limited its analysis of case law applicable to cases involving religious authority.

The application of the Attorney Rioux will be heard on May 2.

Good news for the victims, and hats off to the Crown attorney for refusing to, I suppose I could say and the thought which first comes to mind, ‘shake hands with the devil.’

  2. Sylvia says:

By the way, the Crown had asked for 8-years.
