Ottawa police have charged a retired priest from Toronto with one count of indecent assault after investigating a sexual assault complaint dating back 38 years.

Police said officers began the investigation last month after a man came forward and complained about inappropriate contact between a Roman Catholic priest and a teenage male in 1972.

Kenneth O’Keefe, 79, of Toronto, was arrested and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Money and power is the reason for war. Religion is used to sell it to the citizens.

No it wouldn’t change a thing. It’s all about power over others and if it wasn’t religion it would be something else.

at 12:07 PM ETi feel so sorry for the young male who has now come forward. not only
had he suffered from the guilt of the assault but now has to face ongoing
court proceeding, which i hesitate to believe resolves anything. Except
to take the perpetrator/priest off the streets and hopefully into custody
should he be found guilty. i do not see the relationship between
allowing priests to have wives and the celibate abusing young males?
are the assaults of females by priests under reported? either way
its is very sad that so many young mens lives have been disrupted.

I bet if the church didn’t conceal the pedophile priests from civil authorities, incidents like these would be a lot less common.

I would guess is that pedophiles joined the church because they knew they didn’t fit in with regular society. I’ll bet many of them thought the church would help their problem.

How could they fail to see the horrific damage done to the victims – something that will last for the rest of their lives?
It’s time that liability stretched all the way up the Vatican – a defendant with very deep pockets.

I get this answer a lot on a great many subjects from so called ‘christians’.

The idea that it is somehow wrong to ‘dig up’ what people did that is wrong, specifically hurting other people that they were in charge of and in a weakened state, such as youth, or infirmity.

I detest the idea that somehow ‘digging up’ a molestation, rape, sexual interference from the past is wrong, and if sternwheeler disagrees with me, I would like to know what he did 20+ years ago that he wishes no one to ‘dig up’.

at 11:24 AM ETThe Church would have us believe that when a man is made a priest he acquires a mystical bond with the Diety – one that allows him to perform the miracle of turning wine to the blood of Christ, and bread to the flesh of Christ. Such men must be close to God – but either God does not care that He is close to a bunch od sex perverts, or the Church is in error in this belief. Take your choice. Either way I am so glad that I did make my children a part of this cult, and spared them the sexual advances of these priests.
