Le prêtre et ancien scout Daniel Moreau a plaidé coupable à 16 des 17 chefs d’accusation auxquels il faisait face, le 17 février, au palais de justice de Sorel-Tracy. Il sera incarcéré à partir du 26 avril, date prévue des représentations sur sentence, pour avoir produit, distribué et eu en sa possession de la pornographie juvénile.
Selon la preuve fournie en cour, l’homme de 60 ans avait, en sa possession, plus de 3600 images, 500 vidéos et 200 textes en lien avec de la pornographie juvénile. Plusieurs remises de dates ont été effectuées depuis le début des procédures puisque la défense contestait le nombre de fichiers à caractère pornographique juvénile.
Dans les textes écrits par l’accusé et saisis lors de son arrestation, il y relaterait des fantasmes, notamment des orgies avec de jeunes hommes. Il a été arrêté en 2013 au presbytère de l’église Saint-Gabriel-Lalemant, alors qu’il y était comme prêtre à Sorel-Tracy. Les policiers l’ont retracé avec son adresse IP grâce à une enquête pour démanteler un réseau de prostitution.
« Plaisir solitaire »
L’avocat de Daniel Moreau, Me Gilles Thibault, a admis au juge que la quantité de fichiers pornographiques juvéniles était « importante ».
« Mais malgré la présence de M. Moreau dans un contexte scout tout au long de sa vie, personne ne s’est manifesté pour porter plainte pour des gestes, tentatives ou manœuvres d’attouchements sexuels. Aucune victime n’a porté plainte. C’est plus comme un plaisir solitaire », a-t-il souligné.
Lors de l’énoncé des faits par son avocat, M. Moreau est resté de glace, ne faisant aucune réaction. Il est en liberté pour la durée des procédures.
Les avocats se sont entendus pour remettre la cause du 26 avril. À ce moment, il pourrait y avoir une suggestion commune de peine de prison ferme, selon ce qui a été mentionné en cour.

SOREL | A priest who bought child pornography videos by credit card pleaded guilty to charges of possession, distribution and production of child pornography.

L’avocat de la défense Me Gilles B. Thibault a mentionné que son client n’a fait aucune victime directe et que «c’était un plaisir solitaire».
Il a supposé qu’avec la médiatisation de la cause, si des victimes avaient reconnu monsieur Moreau, elles auraient pu porter plainte.
Le prêtre Moreau a côtoyé des jeunes garçons pendant plus de 30 ans, et ce, partout dans la province alors qu’il était impliqué chez les scouts. Mais il n’a fait aucune victime dans ce mouvement.

La preuve de la Couronne ne démontre pas que M. Moreau a lui-même publié des photos et des vidéos sur internet. Il a par contre diffusé de ses écrits à connotation sexuelle.
Plusieurs autres textes auraient été trouvés à son domicile et non sur le net.
C’est d’ailleurs grâce à ces vidéos achetées avec sa carte de crédit que les policiers auraient pu localiser et arrêter l’accusé.
Depuis son arrestation, M. Moreau aurait consulté des professionnels.
Leurs rapports seront déposés lors de la prochaine étape judiciaire des observations sur la peine qui auront lieu le 26 avril.
Finalement, le juge Denys Noël a rappelé à M. Moreau que même si une entente est prise entre les deux avocats, il en revient à lui de décider de la sentence finale.
