As published in the 15 June 1980 edition of Presence (The Archdiocese of Ottawa newsletter) . Note Father Ed MacNeil omi saying the first Mass at Waupoos Farm is the Father Ed MacNeil who was later convicted for child sex abuse.
The Waupoos Foundation has been operating a summer camp for underprivileged families on Waupoos Island at Picton for five years. A new and interesting extension to this apostolate is about to be formed.
The Oblate Fathers of St. Peter’s Province have generously given the use of some property only eight miles from downtown Ottawa(on Rideau Rd.between Albion Rd.and the Bowesville Rd.) to develop a fun farm for underprivileged families. This farm will offer the opportunity for these families to renew themselves in an atmosphere of Pray, Work and Play.
The Waupos Foundation will take possession of the farm on Tuesday, July 1, Canada Day. To celebrate the occasion, they invite you to join them in an afternoon of celebration at the farm, commencing at 2:00 pm.
Father Ed MacNeil, OMI, Provincial of St. Peter’s Province, will celebrate the Eucharist and tours of the premises, games and fun attractions will follow.
Hundreds of people have joined together to make this dream a reality. There’s room for many, many more. Come out and see for yourself the joy in the spirit of Waupoos. For information call Basil and Kathy Wren at 722¬4055.
