Gary Hoskins will be going to Supreme Court.
Judge Lynn E. Cole made the ruling when the 56-year-old former Roman Catholic priest appeared before her in Stephenville Provincial Court for a preliminary inquiry on Tuesday to determine if there was enough evidence to proceed with trial.
Hoskins is facing two incidents of alleged sexual assault on boys who were in their late teens at the time he was a priest at St. Stephen’s Parish.
The assaults allegedly took place in or around Stephenville.
Cole placed a ban on any evidence put forward during the preliminary inquiry to protect the identity of the alleged victims.
According to court records, Hoskins is now a resident of Mississauga, Ont.
Meanwhile, Rev. Bernard Buckle, another priest who served at St. Stephen’s Parish, is also facing three counts of sexual assault.
The 81-year-old Buckle, who is living in Corner Brook, wasn’t present in court on Tuesday.
Cole set a date of Feb. 18 for the purpose of a preliminary inquiry.
