A civil court case pitting a former Belleville resident against two local priests, has been settled out of court.
In early 2012, Quinte News learned of allegations against Belleville priest Paul Hamilton, who was accused of sexual and physical misconduct against a parishioner, starting when he was 16.
Another priest, Michael Reed, was accused of knowing about the abuse and not reporting it to authorities.
The abuse was alleged to have taken place between 1997 and 2002.
Hamilton served as pastor of Holy Rosary in the 90s and early 2000s, while Reed was priest in Read, Marysville, and Deseronto around the same period.
The Archdiocese of Kingston, the local Catholic jurisdiction, was also named in the multi-million dollar lawsuit.
According to sources, the Archdiocese filed a dismissal order and both sides agreed to it May 4.
Details of the settlement have not been released.
At this time, I know no more than what is reported above.
