The ex-priest Ottawa Jacques Faucher was released on bail Thursday morning.
The religious 76 years, accused of gross indecency and indecent assault of a 7 year old boy in the 70s, has committed up to $ 3,000 to recover his bail. A family member has vouched for his commitment.
A publication ban prevents the media from revealing what was said in the courtroom Thursday morning.
However, the commitment not to Mr. Faucher to be found in public libraries, on school grounds, parks where children can find and public swimming pools. It may not possess or use electronic equipment such as computers or cameras.
According to the Ottawa police, the man would have been between 1971 and 1973 a series of inappropriate contact with the child, which led to the initiation of an investigation last November, when the complaint was filed. The victim is now aged in their late forties.
Born in Ottawa September 26, 1936, Mr. Faucher was ordained a priest at Notre Dame in 1960. After obtaining a degree in theology from the Catholic Institute of Paris, he exercised his pastoral ministry in several churches including Notre-Dame-des-Anges and Saint-Louis-Marie-de-Montfort.
The man has also worked in the world of education on the Ontario side for several years as a professor and director of catechetical pastoral care. He was later elected to the Advisory Committee of French Language School Board Ottawa.
The Archdiocese of Ottawa has reacted to the news Thursday morning. On the website, Archbishop Terrence Prendergast confirmed that Mr. Faucher was suspended from all ministerial activity, “and the prohibition for him to present himself as a Catholic priest.”

L’ex-prêtre d’Ottawa Jacques Faucher a été libéré sous caution, jeudi matin.
Le religieux de 76 ans, accusé de grossière indécence et d’attentat à la pudeur d’un garçon de 7 ans dans les années 70, s’est engagé à hauteur de 3 000$ afin de recouvrer sa liberté provisoire. Un membre de sa famille s’est porté garant de son engagement.
Une ordonnance de non-publication empêche les médias de révéler ce qui a été dit dans la salle de cour, jeudi matin.
Toutefois, l’engagement interdit à M. Faucher de se trouver dans des bibliothèques publiques, sur des terrains d’école, des parcs où des enfants peuvent se trouver et des piscines publiques. Il ne pourra posséder ni se servir d’équipement électronique comme des ordinateurs ou des appareils photos.
Selon la police d’Ottawa, l’homme aurait eu entre 1971 et 1973 une série de contacts inappropriés avec l’enfant, ce qui a mené au déclenchement d’une enquête, en novembre dernier, moment où la plainte a été déposée. La victime serait aujourd’hui âgée dans la fin quarantaine.
