To The St. Michael’s College School Community,

On behalf of St. Michael’s College School, I would like to communicate with our school community regarding the August 9th Toronto Star article about a Basilian priest, Fr. Marshall, who is facing criminal charges for molesting four boys in Windsor, Ontario approximately 20 years ago. Fr. Marshall was part of the St. Michael’s teaching staff from 1952-54 and from 1957-58. In addition last week there was a story about another Basilian priest who was recently charged with a single count offense dating from the early 1970’s.

This is very disturbing news for the Basilian Fathers. As always our concern is first and foremost with the victims of abuse whom we need to support with our prayers and with whatever other resources are appropriate.

We also want to reaffirm the commitment of St. Michael’s College School to ensuring a safe and positive learning and work environment for all members of its community, students, staff, volunteers, parents and alumni.  To this end, policies, guidelines and procedures have been established, particularly to protect our students against all forms of harassment and sexual exploitation. Please be assured that St. Michael’s has communicated these policies to all of its employees and volunteers and will follow the policies and procedures established in these documents.

Updated versions of the St. Michael’s policies on Child Protection and Harassment were approved by the Board of the school at its meeting this past June and are available on the school website.

Sincerely,

Fr. Joe Redican CSB
President

  1. E. Murphy says:

I wonder what Fr. De Valk thinks about it all.

By the way isn’t Fr. Rosica a bit of a prima donna and didn’t he diss LifeSite and didn’t he accept tainted money for the TV outfit he’s associated with. He’s very pleased with himself. Not someone one would want to have much to do with IMHO. Don’t worry about his response to you. It’s what one would expect from narcissistic clerics who are more concerned with the approval of the chattering classes than working in the vineyard and doing the heavy lifting.

  2. Sylvia says:

For those who don’t know, Father Rosica is not only spokesman for the Basilians, he is also CEO of Salt & Light TV, said to be “your Catholic channel of hope.”

I have vague recollection of something about tainted money, but only vague. I do however recall the LifeSite debacle.

An interesting video clip here from November 2009: http://saltandlighttv.org/blog/?p=8140

Where I wonder is this heading?

  3. Reality Checker says:

Yeah Sylvia – there is something vaguely familiar about “Salt&LightTV” If I recall didn’t it have something to do with Chuck Guite of sponsorship fame and St. Joseph’s Publishing run by a Gagliano family (apparently not related to the ex-MPP as the media claimed) ?????

You are on the right track when you say “something about tainted money”
    …..just can’t recall the details!!!

  4. Sorry I Can't Say says:

I see Joe Redican C.S.B has stated “our concern is first and foremost with the victims of abuse whom we need to support with our prayers and with whatever other resources are appropriate.” What wonderful news! Their first concern is not protecting their order, reputation, finances or the accused. Their FIRST concern is the VICTIM(S).

Could anyone direct me to one Thomas Rosica C.S.B: Spokesperson for the Basilian Fathers. I have some questions for him regarding Kenneth O’Keefe and his locations, duties and positions over the years. Since the Basilians consider me, a victim of one of their pedophile priests, their first concern and want to support me “with WHATEVER RESOURCES ARE APPROPRIATE” then surely Thomas Rosica will be pleased to provide this information to me.

Or perhaps he is unaware, as their spokesperson, of such an essential position of the order. But that’s ok, I will be pleased to inform him if he has any difficulties providing such basic information.

Does anyone have his email address? I could not find it on the Basilian website.

  5. Glad to help says:

I foloow this website and I would like answer “Sorry I Can’t Say” in regards to Thomas Rosica’s e-mail address. I checked the current (2010) edition of the anadian Catolic Church Directory and found it listed there. Thomas Rosica’s e-mail address is: trosica@basilian.org.

  6. p says:

why are people wasting their time with Rosica. Dante knew were he would lead you. Reich also knew where he would lead you and described it in “Listen Little Man”.

  7. Glad to help says:

p….Thanks for the comment, I read up a little on Reich and his book “Listen Little Man”. I read this quote from the book:

“Those who are truly alive are kindly and unsuspecting in their human relationships and consequently endangered under present conditions. They assume that others think and act generously, kindly, and helpfully, in accordance with the laws of life. This natural attitude, fundamental to healthy children as well as to primitive man, inevitably represents a great danger in the struggle for a rational way of life as long as the emotional plague subsists, because the plague-ridden impute their own manner of thinking and acting to their fellow men. A kindly man believes that all men are kindly, while one infected with the plague believes that all men lie and cheat and are hungry for power. In such a situation the living are at an obvious disadvantage. When they give to the plague-ridden, they are sucked dry, then ridiculed or betrayed.”

Interesting words. Thanks for the food for thought.

If you’re looking for clean, clear facts on the corruption of Fr. Thomas Rosica and the Gagliano Family/ St. Joseph Corporation – you’re going to have to spend a lot of time – not because there isn’t piles of dirt, there are mountains, but we are talking about some of the best, most experienced liars in their game. These are powerful men and they didn’t take power in Jesus’ way let me tell you that – this is big worldly stuff that you can’t even imagine the size of. Here’s the facts you’re looking for — http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/002074.html Do you have the guts to find out the truth behind the veil on these people. No one has yet or if they have they been silenced in the usual ways.

  9. Sylvia says:

Thanks for the link Jesop. Reality Checker, you were right on 🙂

  10. C. McGuire says:

A interesting comment from Father Redican given that he himself sexually abused my brother for years as a young boy. He betrayed our family and destroyed a young man’s life. You disgust me and I hope you rot in jail one day.

    • 1 abandoned sheep says:

I would like to remind those who seek the truth about Tom Rosica, of the following.
In 2002, after World Youth Days in Toronto, an Evangelist, Alan Ames of Australia and I visited Archbishop Meagher in Kingston, Ont.
The Archbishop, during a conversation, pointedly told us the HE, the Archbishop, was the one cleric designated as ‘in charge’ of the events in Toronto- not Rosica.
And, yes, Rosica continues to seek fame through Salt and Light TV, funded by very questionable money from some Montreal gangsters.

    • Anonymousname says:

Regrettable to hear this C. McGuire. For the sake of students whom Fr. Redican may still be working with I hope you have found the strength within – as difficult as it is for you and your family- to contact the authorities. If he has done what you have shared he needs to be held accountable.

  11. Randall O'Connor says:

I could write ad nauseum about a Basilian priest at Catholic Central in Detroit. This priest frequently rubbed the lower back and thighs of wrestlers at this all-boys school. This occurred around 1986-1987. Truly sick man! I was in Sudbury at St. Charles back in 1985 and heard about the dirt on H. Marshall back then in the Basilian community room.

  12. Randall O'Connor says:

Don’t even get me started about Joe Redican!

  13. Patrick McMahon says:

Having been in Toronto for Rod MacLeod’s civil trial I just have to post a comment here regarding Redican’s statement that “St. Michael’s has communicated these policies to all of its employees and volunteers and will follow the policies and procedures established in these documents.

It just makes the $2.57 million judgment against the basilians all the sweeter when I recall the words of the jury in awarding $500,000 in punitive damages against the basilian for “failure to follow their own policies!” HA

And as for “As always our concern is first and foremost with the victims of abuse whom we need to support with our prayers and with whatever other resources are appropriate.” Maybe Mr. Redican would like a copy of the letter I have from the basilians’ lawyer telling me to go apply for low-income assistance from the government if I cannot afford the medications my doctor is prescribing to assist me in getting over my abuse by Hod Marshall. Some support! HA

You got what you deserved and I was right there to witness it. HA
