No extra jail time for former local priest

A former Niagara priest won’t face any more jail time for breaking rules of his release while waiting to be sentenced on sex assault charges.

Donald Grecco plead guilty to the breach charge in Picton & was sentenced to 30 days pretrial custody.

Grecco was arrested in October, because he wasn’t at the Picton address where he was supposed to be.

In December, he was sentenced to 18 months in a Brampton jail for sex assaults on 3 altar boys in the 1970s & 80s.

Grecco’s name & DNA are now on the national sex offenders registry.  Once released, Grecco will serve 2 years of probation.  He won’t  able to work or volunteer in a position of authority over anyone under 16 years of age.

Grecco is also the subject of of 2 separate $3 million civil dollar suits by victims Michael Blum & James Hennessey.

The St. Catharines Diocese & its former bishop James Wingle are also named in both cases.

A former Roman Catholic Priest in Niagara Region won’t face additional jail time for breaching residency requirements while awaiting sentencing on sexual assault charges.

Seventy-year-old Donald Grecco pleaded guilty to the breach charge in Picton court and was sentenced to 30 days pretrial custody.

Grecco was arrested on October 6th because he wasn’t at the Picton address where he was supposed to be.

He was sentenced to 18-months in jail in mid-December for sex assaults on three altar boys in the 1970s and 80s.
