ST. CATHARINES — A local church sex abuse victim is launching a lawsuit against his former tormentor.

Dunnville’s Michael Blum, who was abused by St. Catharines priest Donald Grecco at St. Stephen’s Church in Cayuga in the late 1970s, will announce the details of the lawsuit during a news conference Tuesday morning at the Holiday Inn in St. Catharines, starting at 10:30.

Also named in the lawsuit is the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Catharines and former bishop James Wingle, who abruptly resigned on April 7.

Blum says Wingle is being sued for his lack of action upon hearing of the abuse he suffered at the hands of Grecco, who is now 70 years of age.

Grecco, who pleaded guilty to abusing two other boys in cases that date back about 30 years, will be sentenced for his crimes on Oct. 29 in Hamilton.

Blum and lawyer Robert Talach are expected to speak at the press conference.

So now we know what happened to Bishop Wingle. He’s a coward and a liar among other things. What a hypocrite!! He’s a disgrace to the priesthood and sending a letter to the people of the St. Catharines diocese claiming he’s away studying on a sabbatical.
