St. Catharine’s Standard
19 October 2010 The bail hearing of former Roman Catholic priest Donald Grecco has been adjourned to Thursday at 1 p.m. in a Belleville courtroom. The 70-year-old St. Catharines native was arrested earlier this month for a breach of his residency requirements while awaiting sentencing. Grecco pleaded guilty in the spring to sexually abusing three teenaged boys in the 1970s and 1980s. He will be sentenced for those crimes in Hamilton on Oct. 29. Grecco attended a bail hearing last Thursday, but wasn’t released because he could not get surety.

Two former St. Catharines clergy members, Priest Donald Grecco and Bishop James Wingle, who pleaded guilty to molesting three altar boys between 1978 and 1986 are being sued by one of their former victims, Dunnville resident Michael Blum, for $3 million. Both men disappeared before authorities could find them, but Grecco has been found and is currently in custody without bail, his sentence will come on Oct. 29 – coming after long delays due to Grecco’s health problems. Prior to his arrest, he had been working as a grief councilor. Wingle was the bishop of the St. Catharines Catholic diocese in 2005. Though Grecco has plead guilty to the criminal charges, the civil case has not yet been proven.
