A former Catholic priest facing 17 sex related charges against minors still does not have a trial date.
Yvon Arsenault is said to have committed the crimes against young boys during the 1970s and 1980s.
A date was to be set today in Moncton Provincial Court, but that didn’t happen.
The Crown asked for the trial to begin in November, but defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux wasn’t able to accept those dates.
As a result, the parties will have to return to court again to set a date.
Several alleged victims have come forward to accuse Arsenault of sex crimes while he was a priest in Collette and Rosairville, just south of Miramichi, and in Shediac.
The charges are:
Indecent assault and gross indecency against a boy in Collette and Rosaireville between Jan. 1, 1976 and Dec. 31, 1978.
Indecent assault and gross indecency against a boy in Collette, Rosairville and Shediac between Jan. 1, 1971 and Dec. 31, 1974.
Indecent assault and gross indecency a boy in Shediac between Jan. 1, 1972 and Dec. 31, 1972.
Gross indecency and sexual assault against a boy in Collette between June 1, 1980 and June 31, 1984.
He is also accused of three counts of indecently assaulting and three counts of committing gross indecency on the same boy between Nov. 1, 1973 and Dec. 31, 1974.
Arsenault has pleaded not guilty and elected for trial by judge and jury.
