The preliminary inquiry for a suspended Roman Catholic priest accused of molesting young people decades ago did not go ahead yesterday.

The inquiry was originally supposed to take place Sept. 2. but defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux told the court that he needed an adjournment.  That was the case again on Tuesday, with Lemieux requesting adjournment.

The case returns to court Monday to set a new date for the hearing if necessary.

Yvon Arsenault is facing 18 charges involving six complainants.  he previously elected trial by judge and jury.

Arsenault, 71, is accused of committing the offences in communities such as Colette, Rosaireville and Shediac from the early 1970s to the mid 1980s.
