VATICAN – Italian Archbishop Luigi Ventura, 74, a Vatican diplomat who once served in Canada, Chile and western Africa, is under investigation by police in Paris for allegedly sexually assaulting a city official.

The Vatican learned from news reports that the investigation had been launched and it was “waiting for the results of the investigation” by city prosecutors, said Alessandro Gisotti, interim director of the Vatican press office, in response to reporters’ queries.

A French judicial official confirmed to the Associated Press Feb. 15 that the prosecutor’s office in Paris had opened an investigation into an allegation of “sexual aggression.”

The French newspaper, Le Monde, reported that the diplomat was suspected of having sexually molested a young male employee at the Paris city hall Jan. 17, the day the mayor was giving her New Year’s address to diplomats and other leading figures.

Archbishop Ventura has been serving as apostolic nuncio to France since 2009. Prior to that posting, he was the Vatican’s representative in Canada between 2001 and 2009, helping with preparations for St. John Paul II’s visit to Toronto for World Youth Day in 2002.

He served as the nuncio in Chile from 1999 to 2001 and, before that, in Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Niger from 1995 to 1999.

A Vatican nuncio plays an important role in compiling recommendations to the Pope concerning the appointment of new bishops and archbishops in the country he is placed.

If that Salt & Light YouTube video clip showing Archbishop Ventura and Basilian Vatican spokesman and Chief Executive Officer of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation doesn’t show properly I will delete it and for now and repost it later on the new Archbishop Ventura page.

Enough for now,

I believe the video is accessible? I realize it doesn’t look the greatest and splays across the adjacent column, but if people can access it readily I will leave it as is for now.

In the article you posted “sexual aggression.” is a literal translation of the french agressions sexuelles (it’s in plural in the Le Monde article). This is in fact an investigation into alleged sexual assaults. The original Le Monde story states that it involved – une main baladeuse – lit: a wandering hand. Le Monde is a newspaper of record. I have found another publication which if I understand correctly is a LGBT news magazine which is reporting today that a second plaintif is willing to testify in this matter. The Huffington Post is reporting that Ventura is alleged to have firmly grabbed the employee`s behind.
La Croix (i.e. The Cross) a daily French Roman Catholic newspaper is reporting today that several victims involved in clerical circles have contacted it with reports of having been sexually assaulted by Mgr. Ventura.

    According to La Nouvelle Tribune,
Plaintif no.1 (in source Le Monde story) is in his mid-30s alleges he was assaulted three times and that one of those assaults was witnessed by third parties. (parties=témoins=witnesses/plural)

As far as I can tell, the core Le Monde story is getting picked up by various media outlets. I’ll try to track the La Croix piece indicating that there are multiple victims in clerical circles who contacted it with their experiences of being assaulted by Mgr. Ventura. The french aren`t exactly being… let’s say diplomatic… about it on social media. It’s quite all vulgar.
