With a weapon!

We are heading back down to the States this morning and will be there through Christmas and into the New Year.

Thankfully our grandson is out of the hospital and holding his own.  Thank you so much for your prayers.  Please keep praying.

My deepest apologies to those of you who are still waiting for a reply to your email.   I’m not sure that I will have any opportunity to get to them while in the States.  I will however answer them when I can.

I had promised a number of days ago to post some articles related to news of the scandal  engulfing St. Michael’s College School, a ‘prestigious’  all boys school in Toronto run by the scandal plagued Basilians.  Here it is.  I had hoped to write a fairly in depth blog regarding the ‘duty to report’ but circumstances have dictated otherwise.  I will just make a few observations and name a few familiar names.

22 November 2018:  “St. Michael’s College president, principal resign amid student sex-assault probe” & related articles

This truly is beyond comprehension.  Six boys – all 14 and 15 years of age – charged.  Not one.  Not two.  Not four.  SIX!

Six boys in their early teens facing charges of  assault, gang sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.

With a weapon!

Indeed.  With a weapon I assume references the allegations of a group of boys sodomizing a 14-year-old boy with the handle of a broom .

Where in the name of all that’s good and holy would  boys of that age come up with the idea of sodomizing  a 14-year-old boy with a broom handle?

Naive I may be, but I honestly can not fathom what would even make boys that age think of such a thing,  much less do it.

And this in a Roman Catholic school, where, sad to say, the unwitting parents of all those boys dug deep into their pockets to ensure that their sons receive what is deemed by many to be a good sound and  solid Roman Catholic education.

The one good here is that that six boys have been charged.  And rightly so.

St. Michael’s College School & a  few infamous Basilians

I confess that I hear St. Michael’s College School and I instantly think of  a number of predatory Basilians who either taught or studied at the prestigious boy’s school.  Look at this,  spanning from the 40s to the early 90s!:

(1) CAMPBELL:  Father Leo Campbell csb

Basilian priest.  Ordained 1974.  Born in Dominion, Cape Breton Island.  Principal at St. Micheal’s College School from 1988 to 1993.  Allegations of sex abuse reported in 2008. Father Leo Campbell died shortly afterwards.  There have been many men who allege childhood sex abuse at the hands of Father Leo Campbell.

(2) FALLONA:  Father Michael Fallona csb

Canadian.  Basilian priest. Ordained 1967.   Taught at Sr. Michael’s College School in early 60s.   Sued 2009 – allegations sex abuse of 13-year-old girl.

(3) HANNAH:  Father Jack Hanna csb

American.  Studied at St. Michael’s College University, Toronto.

February 2013 suspended from teaching (at St. Thomas High School, Houston, Texas) and ministry for “misconduct”

(4) MARSHALL:  Father William Hodgson Marshall csb

LAICIZED.  Canadian. Formerly Basilian priest.   Ordained 1951.  Attended St. Michael’s College school in early to mid 50s.  Taught in other  Basilian schools and served in various communities including: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Sudbury, Ontario;  Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Windsor Ontario.   GUILTY pleas 2011 to numerous charges related to sex abuse of young boys and one female.  Died 2014.

(5) O’KEEFE:  Father Kenneth O’Keefe csb

Canadian. Basilian priest.  Graduated from St. Michael’s College School in1942.  Taught at St. Michael’s College School  early to mid 50s. Ordained 1958.  August 2010 charged.  GUILTY pleas 2012 and 2013.  No jail time.  Living in Toronto

(6)  WHYTE:  Father Robert Whyte csb

Canadian.  Basilian priest.  Ordained 1947.  Taught at St. Michael’s College School in the mid 40s and into early 50s.  Sent for “treatment” in 1977 then back teaching.   1990 GUILTY plea to indecently assaulting young boys over 20 year period.    Died 2014.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

Thanks be to God for your grandson’s improvement, and may it continue.

It is all social media. Without the Internet, many of the social problems we have now would not be happening. There have been studies which show by the age of something like 10, most children have been exposed to pornography on the Internet. Given the fact that so many have allowed their children social media without supervision, it is no surprise they have seen a lot of pornography by the time they are teens. Today’s culture is awash in gay porn and encouragement to “experiment” and not be “homophobic”. Young people are sitting ducks, without adult leadership, they are lost in a sexually drenched world. Poor young people today. Being a degenerate is what is considered cool.

This kind of hazing is not unique to St. Mike’s.

I attended public high school in rural eastern Ontario in the early 1990’s (pre-internet) and sexualized hazing was part of locker room life. Everyone knew – including the gym teachers – but no-one intervened. Sexual humiliation was how rookies were “welcomed” to various sports teams (especially the football team).
