It’s working for me now. Let me know if you have problems viewing.
Thanks for posting it Sylvia. We sometimes forget that it was not only the clergy who knew about widespread abuse. There were many laypeople, at least in my community, who were aware of what was going on and I suspect it would have been the same everywhere.
My hope is that some of the people who knew and said nothing might now come forward and speak the truth. This would be a great comfort to the survivors, many of whom simply cannot come forward themselves. Some of the priests who committed criminal acts with impunity are gone now and will never see the inside of a courtroom, but at least the truth can be spoken. In some cases people refuse to believe the victims. They just cannot imagine that men they had such respect for did such terrible things. It is not possible to turn the clock back but it is not too late to try to make good to the ones who would have benefited from people in the community speaking out when the offenses were taking place. To those who Christians who knew and failed to act at the time, they might want to remember John 8:32.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men (and women) do nothing.
Never was this more true than in the case of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. If there is such a thing as a sin of omission, then surely this must be it.
I have a funny feeling that a lot of people have heard such and such thing about what is known today as ” church scandal” !
They will not speak up for fear that the next question would be”why didn’t you do something”?
I quiet understand their stand, if I told you I talked with some one of the RCMP in Cap Pelée of the late 70, early 80, told me that father Camille
Leger had a file 2 and half inch thick and it disappeared!!!
So that is to says to me a lot of people stepped foward, but discouraged by what mean???
Here in the diocese of Bathurst, might I remind you of victim Denis Thériault story, of notifying in 1958 of abuses by Father Levi Noel…….the church sent him to Rivière-du-Portage NB
So if you did not do anything to stop this…………you are not alone, if you had tried or not, the church would of stoped you……
Speaking the truth can only go so far…….
Those that hurt you, can not heal you!!!
