Some more and very interesting and disturbing information regarding the recent sentencing of convicted molester Father Robin Gwyn

27 July 2017:  Jailed priest pleads guilty to molesting boy

For me, a reminder that things aren’t always what they seem and that Crown attorney Gerard Laarhuis is indeed an excellent Crown who has deep insight into the damage done to children who are sexually abused by Roman Catholic priest.

Truly, it is amazing that Father Gwyn was charged and convicted.  Had the victim I refer to as “Danny” not agreed to testify chances are high that charges would not have been laid.  And, had the deacon not reported what the younger victim had told him, charges may never have been laid.

I commend both victims.  Thanks to both of you Father Robin Gwyn has been exposed as the wolf in sheep’s clothing that he is.  (I trust that the Archdiocese of Kingston has initiated proceedings to have this man defrocked/laicized.  I pray that other boys who have been sexually abused by this man find the courage to speak up.)

I commend the poor dear mother who read both her own and her son’s victim impact statement in court.  My hear aches for her, and for her son.  Such pain.  Those of you who have been through it understand.

And, yes,  I especially commend Crown attorney Gerard Laarhuis for seeing these two cases through to the end.  He truly understands the damage wrought when a Roman Catholic priest sexually abuses a child.

“This is an enormous betrayal of trust,” Laarhuis observed to the judge and “Mr. Gwyn has left a world of hurt and betrayal and pain.”

Amen!

Laarhuis told Justice Abrams that having prosecuted a wide variety of crimes, “I can say, short of murder, nothing exacts a greater toll on the soul,” than sexual abuse.

And Amen again.

And, look at this.

Prior to entering the seminary in the mid-1980s, Gwyn had been a teacher for 10 years and admitted to therapists after he was, as he’s described it, “de-parished” in 2004, that he’d had nine sexual relationships with teenage boys over the years, including four of his students.

No surprise really, is it? but he sexually abused four (at least four) of his students when he was teacher.  And then he decided he had a calling to become a priest?  Who invited him or nudged him in that direction I wonder?  I do not for a moment hesitiate to say that it certainly wasn’t God  !

Anyway, he’s been exposed for what he is.

Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

Sylvia – is Mr. Laarhuis the same Crown Prosecutor from the Father Rene Labelle trial? Mike.

Yes, Mike. That’s him. I should have mentioned that.

No problem – I remember him well as a very driven, and well-informed attorney who appeared to have a very firm grip on the damage caused by these wayward “men of God”. Thanks Sylvia. Mike.
