More court news:

(1)  Father Daniel Moreau (Diocese of Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec)

23 May 2017:  09:30 am, courtroom 01.34, sentencing, Sorel-Tracy Quebec courthouse, Quebec

By way of reminder, Moreau, a priest who was a Youth Group leader and national trainer for the Adventurers Association of Baden-Powell, was charged 14 November 2013 with  seven counts of production, possession and distribution of child pornography.   On 17 February 2017 , over three years after the charges were laid, he entered a guilty plea

(2)  A two-day trial  has been set for previously convicted Father Barry McGrory (Archdiocese of Ottawa, Ontario)

26 – 27 March 2018:   10 am, TRIAL Ottawa courthouse (161 Elgin St.)

The first of these charges was laid November 2016.  Further charges were laid March of this year.

I’m surprised.  Only two days booked for trial?  I believe there are at least three complainants.   Two days seems awfully tight to allow for three complainants to testify and be cross-examined, and for the Crown to call whatever other witness are part of the Crown’s case, and then for McGrory to mount his defence.

Anyway, two days it is.  One year from now.

Please keep the complainants in your prayers.

(3)  Brian Lucy (former church organist, Archdiocese of Kingston, Ontario)

I am awaiting a call back with next court date.  Please keep the complainant in your prayers.

(4)  Nathan Labatt  (Former youth volunteer with Archdiocese of Regina, Saskatchewan Youth Ministry.  Also volunteered with the Ukrainian Catholic Church and assisted at camps.  Former Boy Scout leader. Has attended various youth camps and retreats throughout Saskatchewan.)

I am in the process of trying to find out when his next court date is on his Humboldt, Saskatchewan charges, but, there seems to trouble with the phone line –  keep getting a busy signal, or, if it does rings, it just rings and rings and rings.  I’ll keep trying 🙂

A reminder that Labatt was facing charges in three separate jurisdictions.  On 31 March 2017 he was  ACQUITTED on the Kamsack charges of invitation to sexual touching and possession of child pornography. ( “Judge Patrick Koskie ruled that the Crown had not definitively proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the victim was under the age of 16. Although Koskie said he had a reasonable suspicion that was the case, the statement of the accused to that effect fell short of the criminal standard for the establishment of age.”

Please keep the complainants in your prayers.

Barring anything untoward, this afternoon is committed to getting the page on the Ottawa priest ready to post.

Enough for now,

Sylvia
