This is beyond dirty.
Some may have noticed that yesterday evening I posted a comment regarding the stay of charges against Father Javier De Los Angeles Cortazar . There was no indication as to why the charges were stayed. My hope was that it wasn’t because De Los Angeles Cortazar had claimed his right to a speedy trial had been violated.
Well, it wasn’t . It was, in my opinion, worse. What De Los Angeles Cortazar did to get off here was worse.
Look at this:

I realize that many if not most of you disagree with Church teaching regarding the inviolability of the Seal of Confession, with the belief that clerical sexual predators confess without fear of being reported and that a priest confessor should have a duty to report confessions which identify clerical molesters. I don’t believe that most of these predators believe in confession or sin so it would be the rare one indeed who would confess his evil acts, and I do believe that there are ways that the matter can be handled in such way as to protect children and the vulnerable. I also believe and have said in the past and continue to believe that the seal of confession must, for the sake of the penitent, remain inviolable. Any good priest believes that, and will go to jail rather than violate the seal of confession. A priest who violates the seal of confession is excommunicated.
So, look how Father Javier De Los Angeles Cortazar has wriggled out of these sexual assault charges against him!
I could not believe my eyes when I saw this this morning!
De Los Angeles Cortazar knows full well that his accuser can not answer the question. He knows!!! And he sat in court and watched this play out? And he said not a word?!!!
Oh my, I wish we knew more of what testimony was entered into evidence before it came to this.
Do I need to say what I think of a priest who deliberately sets up another priest in this fashion?
This is reprehensible. Vile.
What will the archdiocese do about this? Will they take Father De Los Angeles Cortazar by the scruff of the neck and deal with him canonically? Will they give him the boot?
By the way, with this kind of stay the case can be brought back to trial within a year. I hope and pray that if there is anyone out there with information regarding this situation and these charges they will contact police.
