The trial of Father Javier De Los Angeles Cortazar commenced yesterday (17 April 2017) in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
Actually I was concerned that the dates or location here may have been in error, but, I just checked and the trial did indeed commence yesterday (Easter Sunday) and it is indeed being conducted in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
You may recall that Father De Los Angeles Cortazar was originally ordained for the Archdiocese of Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico 27 December 1996, and then became then incardinated in the Diocese of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan 18 August 2014. When he arrived in Canada in general and the the PA diocese in particular is at this time unknown.
Father De Los Angeles Cortazar is facing charges related to allegations of sexually assaulting another priest at a cabin near Goodsoil Sask in 2014. Strangely enough, De Los Angeles Cortazarhe remained in active ministry after the charges were reported. The current 2017 Canadian Catholic Church Directory lists him as Pastor at Saint Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Goodsoil, Saskatchewan, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Loon Lake, and Saint Antoninius Roman Catholic Church in Pierceland, Saskatchewan. The diocesan website currently shows him as “On Leave.”
I encourage anyone who is free to do so to attend. Please keep the complainant in your prayers, and please pass along links to news about the trial.
I am still doing some digging and making calls regarding Father Robert MacKenzie – awaiting call backs and emails which don’t seem to be coming, so, will have to start again 🙂
Enough for now,
