They’ve known since 1998!

The  ‘English” google translations of the two Father Jacques Faucher legal documents are nowt posted.  Not the greatest English in the world, for sure!!  I did my best, but really have no French at all and was unable to make any progress in translation aside tiddly little things such as substituting “him” for “her” a number of times.  I was still able to sort out the general gist of the rulings, and am certain that all of you will be able to as well.  They are informative – help us all to understand the way ‘the system’ works and a reminder that it is arguments such as thiese which are often playing out in the lead up to trial.

Here they are, with invitations to those of you who are fluently bilingual to offer improvements in translations 🙂

21 March 2016:  Reasons for Judgment re allowing testimony of some complainants at Father Jacques Faucher to be used as similar fact evidence at trial (English via google translation with original French text attached)

22 March 2016:  Reasons for Judgment re allowing detective interview of Father Jacques Faucher into evidence at trial (English via google translation with original French text attached)

Did you see this:

[3] In 1998, one of the boys, P.M., filed a complaint against the accused to the church. The accused was then involved in the investigation conducted by the church.

That’s from the 22 March document, as is this:

[48] Mr. Faucher … knew since 1998 that PM had made a complaint to the church and that PM had settled the complaint with the church for a monetary sum.

That was when the Archbishop of the day was Marcel Gervais, and auxiliaries were  Bishops Frederick Joseph Colli (19 December 1994 – 02 February 1999) and Paul Marchand, S.M.M. (31 May 1993 to 08 March 1999).

Who all was in on this particular cover-up?

I am disgusted!  Sick!

Silence!

An ‘internal’  investigation was conducted, there was a settlement, and not one word of caution to Roman Catholic parents in either the Archdiocese of Ottawa or across the river in the Archdiocese Gatineau-Hull Quebec that a molester was on the loose and in their midst.

Silence!

Yesterday Archbishop Terrence Prendergast issued a statement regarding Faucher’s conviction.  I will post it separately shortly, but, for now, here it is:

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, March 30, 2016

ARCHBISHOP PRENDERGAST COMMENTS ON CRIMINAL CONVICTION OF AN OTTAWA PRIEST

The Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of  Ottawa, on learning that Fr.Jacques Faucher, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Ottawa, had been convicted of criminal charges of indecent assault and gross indecency made the following statement:

“When Jacques Faucher was criminally charged in February of 2013, I suspended him from all ministry and prohibited him from representing himself as a Catholic priest. Given his conviction today on charges of indecent assault and gross indecency, that suspension and prohibition continue in force indefinitely.

Our diocese is committed to creating a safe environment in the Church for minors and other vulnerable persons. We are also committed to a process of justice and reconciliation for the victims of clergy abuse. Further, we follow the requirements of Canon Law and the most recent procedural requirements of the Vatican requiring that cases of the abuse of minors by priests be reported to offices of the Vatican.

I invite the faithful to pray with me that justice may be done and that healing and reconciliation will come to the victims.

In light of news that the archdiocese has known since at least 1998 that Father Jacques Faucher is a child molester, note  particularly the following:

“When Jacques Faucher was criminally charged in February of 2013, I suspended him from all ministry and prohibited him from representing himself as a Catholic priest. Given his conviction today on charges of indecent assault and gross indecency, that suspension and prohibition continue in force indefinitely.

What a lark!  Faucher was suspended in 2013 –  when he was criminally charged.

And now presumably the suspension and so on will “continue in force” indefinitely.

Pathetic.

What sort of “safe environment” was fostered while Father Faucher mingled and mixed with unwitting Catholic parents – and children – for the past 18  nyears?

The man needs to be defrocked/laicized. Never mind all the idle talk and banter of justice and reconciliation and safe environments.  The truth of the matter is that, when it comes to Father Faucher, for the past 18 years the archdiocese has wilfully turned a blind eye to justice and safe environments..

It gets tiring.  They have not and do not cover themselves in glory

Enough for now,

Sylvia
