Here are latest court updates:

(1) Father Ronald Leger csv (Viatirian priest who served in Archdiocese of St. Boniface, Manitoba for many years)

The next court date for Father Ronald Leger, Viatorian priest, who entered a guilty plea 13 July 2015 to sex abuse charges dating to the 1980s and early 2000, is:

09 February 2016:  2 pm, disposition coordinator docket, Winnipeg Provincial courthouse (408 York Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba )

Leger, who both attended and taught at Cornwall’s Classical College, had a court-date in  Winnipeg, Manitoba yesterday.  I can find no media coverage.

“Disposition” is the outcome of the case.  Does that mean he has been sentenced?  Does anyone know?  When I have more free time I can make a few more phone calls to find out, but that may be a while, so, any news regarding sentencing would be  welcome.

Please keep the victims in your prayers.

(2)  Donald Grecco  (was with Diocese of St. Catharine’s Ontario)

The next court date for ex-priest and previously convicted child molester is Donald Grecco is:

02 February 2016: 2 pm,  “to be spoken to,” Cayuga court house (55 Munsee St. N., Cayuga, Ontario)

Please, as always, keep the complainants and their families in your prayers

(3)  Father Linus Bastien (Diocese of London, Ontario)

I have a call in to get the next court date for Father Linus Bastien.  As soon as I get word I will pass it along.

Please keep the complainants in your prayers.

(4)  Father Stephen Amesse (Archdiocese of Ottawa, Ontario)

The continuation of Father Stephen Amesse’s preliminary hearing is:

22 January 2015:  continuation of Preliminary Hearing Ottawa courthouse (161 Elgin St.)

I am awaiting a call back with the start time.  I think it would be 10 am, the same time as the previous dates of the hearing, but am not sure and, yes, sometimes the times do change.   As soon as I find out I will let you know.

Please keep the complainant in your prayers.

Hopefully next week I will be in a position to make a number of phone calls, answer emails and get back to work on Sylvia’s Site full time.  Right now my priority is to try keep the court dates as up-to-date as possible.

My web host sold to another company.  A surprise!  There were a few tense moments when I first heard the news and the site was “migrated’ to a new ‘server.’  The site was down for a spell yesterday during the process – it happened unexpectedly so no opportunity to notify you.  There are still a few things which I must change, but so far all seems to be going fairly well.

I will certainly miss my previous host, Zoltan 🙁   He was very patient 🙂

Enough for now,

  1. A says:

Stephen Amesse is today! Not tomorrow. Just found out last second.

Court room 9. Starts at 10:00

  2. Sylvia says:

    Thank you A

Do you know if he will be back in court tomorrow (Friday, 22 January)? If you, or anyone else knows, please pass on the word.

  3. Bill says:

Yes, I would love to know what happened. I’ve been following this one very closely. If the matters goes to trial, is that also open to the public?

  4. Dave says:

Yes, is he going to be back? I’m very eager to know what happened on this.

  5. A says:

The judge ruled that there is sufficient evidence to go to the trial.
I believe a day was slotted for Feb 5.

  6. A says:

I didn’t hear anything yesterday about today.

I also checked and couldn’t find anything in regards to Father Stephen Amesse or R. v A,S.

Also checked for case number 04119981419545, but didn’t see it.

Do you know what is going on today Ashley?

  7. Bill says:

Has the alleged victim’s name been announced? The reason I ask is because the account says they went to Sacred Heart in 2008: as I did. I’m 99% sure I know the person.

  8. Sylvia says:

I have been told by someone who was at the courthouse this am that Father Amesse was NOT in court today. I believe what I was told before, that he has been committed to stand trial, stands. I will check on and attempt to get confirmation later today, and if unable to do so today, will do so on Monday.

What a mess! So much confusion. Hopefully I can get it sorted out within the next few days.

Bill, there is always an automatic public ban placed on the name of the complainant in s4ex abuse cases.

  9. Sylvia says:

I have now heard from two sources who tell me that Father Amesse was no in court date. I have also been told that his next court date is 05 February 2016 “to be spoken to’ I have been unable to contact anyone at the courthouse to confirm the date and the info that Father Amesse has been ordered to stand trial – I will try again on Monday.

I highly doubt that 05 February is the trial date : it is usually months – often a year or more – from the time that a case in Ontario is ordered to trial until it actually goes to trial. I will see what I can find out.
