A very quick note from the States….

First, Father Stephen Amesse‘s one-dayPreliminary Hearing is scheduled for tomorrow:

Monday, 21 December 2015:  10 am, courtroom #2, Preliminary Hearing, Ottawa Ontario courthouse (161 Elgin St.)

I encourage all those who can do so to attend.

Please keep the complainant in your prayers.

(Sorry, for some reason I am never able to send emails while I am in the states.  Several people have  contacted me with questions about the date:  to my knowledge the hearing will proceed as scheduled tomorrow morning.)

Second, day one of our trip started on a very bad note.  We departed at around 4:45 am Thursday morning.  A little over one hour on the road we were on the edge of Perth, Ontario when a school bus pulled out of a parking lot or something and drove right into us – broadside on the passenger side.  The bulk of the impact was on the rear door  with significant impact also to part of passenger door and the rocker panel.  The entire rear window was smashed in.

Thanks be to God, we were both able to get out of the car, and strange as it sounds were anxious at that moment in time only to to get down to the States to see the grandchildren who had for the past month been eagerly counting off the days until our arrival.

To make a long story short, the car had to be towed back into Ottawa, – thanks to the kind assistance of people at the garage arrangements were quickly made for a rental vehicle, then one young man at the garage kindly  helped me transfer gifts and suitcases and all our tightly packed belongings into the van while my husband talked to insurance and garage and signed papers and so on.  We were back on the road around 10:30 am – drove through to 11:30 pm Thursday, and arrived  at 8;30 pm Friday evening.

It all caught up with both of us yesterday!

It is all a little surreal.   There are aches and pains and bumps and bruises.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

    Dear Sylvia,

I am relieved that neither you nor your husband were seriously hurt (or anyone else in the school bus!). My wish is for you to have a splendid, peaceful, “ache-free” holiday with your loved-ones, and a new year filled with joy and happiness.

I continue to tell you how much I appreciate the work you do here (as do so many people across the country and around the world). You are the voice of fact, rationality, and support for us all. For this, and so much more, I am thankful. Happy holidays!

Oh my goodness! What a way to start your Christmas holiday. You sound like such troopers to just carry on after what must have been a shocking experience. Glad to hear it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Safe travels.
