The Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse IS conducting hearings – they are about to start any minute now.  The hearings are scheduled to commence at 10 am AEST 21 May 2015, which is 8 pm EST 20 May 2015.  This is what is referred to as Case Study 28.  It is being conducted in Ballarat.

I don’t know who the witnesses are who are scheduled to testify – still trying to find out.

If you have never had occasion to attend an inquiry this is a good opportunity to find out how inquiries operate.  I plan to watch for at least a while.  I doubt that I will last into the wee hours of the morning, but I will catch some.

They seem to be running a few minutes late..

Oh, here we go…

Enough for now,

Reception is choppy right now. They will get it fixed up.

And, for those who checked in late, this witness has asked that he not be filemd, hence sometimes we see the commissioner, and sometimes the log, and sometimes the lawyer, but never the witness.

Also, there was a letter of some sort entered into evidence by, I believe, a lawyer for a diocese, before testimony began. It sounds as though someone – bishop, priest, Cardinal? – is upset about something which has transpired at the Ballarat hearing- and sounds as though there is concern that whoever it is will have no chance to respond.

There will no doubt be coverage of this tomorrow, and there’s a good chance the letter will by then be filed as an exhibit.

They’re on a short break now.

Those of you have seen your molester acquitted on a technicality would have been deeply moved by the testimony of the last victim. He saw two of his molesters convicted in a court of law, the third was acquitted. He was devastated by the acquittal. Absolutely devastated.
