Youth minister charged

24-year old Nathan Labatt of Regina Saskatchewan was charged 14 January 2015 with sexual exploitation, invitation to sexual touching and possession of child pornography.  For whatever reason the charges were just made public today.

Labatt was very active with the Archdiocese of Regina Youth Group.  He was also active with youth in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Boys Scouts of Canada and various camps and retreats.

A page has been added.  I am working on it.  There is a lot of information to add. Anyone who has further information please contact me.

As you will see going through the material posted to date, it looks as though an attempt may have been made to purge Labatt’s name from some archdiocesan documents.

It’s supper time.  I must run.  Will carry on with this later.

Before I run, must say I cringe as a read through this young man’s constant interaction with children.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the complainants and their families.  I encourage those with any information to contact the RCMP at:  Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section at 306-780-7127.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

    Hi Sylvia,

I understand you are trying to do some good with this page, so I give this suggestion to help better your reporting. Nathan was not a “youth minister”. He was very involved with youth (both with Boy Scouts and with the church), but he was never hired as a youth minister. Please be cautious in what you report as these differences do matter. Being involved with youth ministry and being hired as a youth minister are very different things. Regardless, what he is charged with is very serious and my prayers are with those affected. Thanks.

I knew his activities with youth were all volunteer – truly never thought that he had been hired by the archdiocese, and certainly was not aware that referring to him as a “youth minister” might in any way infer that he had been hired and was being paid by the archdiocese.

My apologies if my choice of words has inadvertently caused confusion for anyone.

Re definition of “Youth Minister” —

Google “Youth Minister volunteer” and you will see that the role of youth minister can be either a paid or an unpaid role.
