Father Joe LeClair has a court-date tomorrow morning, Wednesday 25 July 2012, at 08:30 am, court room #5, Ottawa, Ontario courthouse – “first appearance.”

I have seen no media coverage of the Father Philip Jacobs voire dire. It started in Victoria, BC on Monday and was scheduled for the full week. I was told it was open to the public but am now questioning that. I am sure that if it were open to the public the media would be in attendance, and, even with a publication ban, there would be some reports on what is happening. Has anyone heard or seen anything at all?

Two updates on court-dates:
(1) Father Dan Miller
Next court-date for Father Dan Miller is 14 August 2012: 11 am, Pembroke Ontario courthouse, to set a date. (I’m not certain what date is being set. It could be for a preliminary hearing, or for trial. I could be mistaken but am more inclined to think it is for a prelim.)
(2) Father Linus Bastien
Next court date for Father Linus Bastien is 10 December 2012: 09:30 am, courtroom #10, Windsor, Ontario courthouse, focus hearing. (A focus hearing is similar to a pre-trial conference so probably NOT open to the public)

Seven more charges against Father George Smith:
17 July 2012: “Priest facing more sex-related charges” & related articles
That is now a total of 69 charges. When I checked in March there were 11 complainants – I don’t know the numbers now, but with seven new charges there must be at least one or two new complainants.
Father Smith’s next court date is still scheduled for 10 September 2012 in Corner Brook, NFLD.

Father Mark Sullivan had a court-date on 20 July 2012 and he has another on Thursday 26 July 2012. There has been no media coverage or reports re his court-date of 20 July. Hopefully there will be some news from the 26th, but unless someone is there to pass on the word we probably won’t hear a thing. With these early court dates the best that can be done is to keep track of upcoming court dates and hope that someone is able to get there to relay word of what happens. The media usually do not cover these because it is usually over in a matter of minute or two, and often boils down to no more than setting the next court date.

Enough for now,

*I was hoping to make it to the island to observe at the voir dire for Philip Jacobs, but was just too busy, and those ferries are rather costly. I haven’t seen any media coverage here on the Westcoast at all. I’m heading it to the SNAP convention in Chicago tomorrow. I’ll keep you informed.
Thanks Leona. I have heard that there is to be “judgment” on Friday morning at 9 am. I think, but am not 100% certain, that this is probably a judgment related to the voir dire. We will keep our eyes and ears open, and hope and pray there is some media coverage of the judgment. If there is nothing in the media I will have to make some phone calls to see if I can find out what this is all about.
Enjoy your trip 🙂
