I had hoped to post my comments re the Ted Schmidt CBC interview but don’t have it together yet, at least not to a point that I am comfortable posting. I won’t have opportunity to work on it tomorrow until after I tuck our little grand-daughter into bed for the night – hoping I still have some oomph left in me by then 🙂 I am sure I will – she’s a sweetheart and really is a good little girl. We are enjoying her beyond measure – love the things she says. So funny, and she so serious in saying them .
Honest to goodness, I can’t believe I am even working on this particular blog in the first place! And it’s totally my own doing. After all my chatter about steering clear of these issues here I am picking my way through this interview, not because it’s that interview per se, but because it was tossed into mix when, as far I am concerned, there was much better could be done as far as addressing the Bastarche/Archbishop Richard “conciliation” process /potential cover-up in Moncton, and the cover-up in the Diocese of Bathurst.
Yes, I am using and mean to use the word cover-up. As far as I am concerned, it is a cover-up. What else do you call it when the names of who knows how many known clerical sexual predators dead and alive are secreted?
And what else do you call it when any and all damning information about recycling of known molesters is swept under the rug? Ditto any and all information regarding refusal of bishops and/or other diocesan staff to act on allegations. Ditto any and all names of bishops/staff who recycled known predators. Ditto the names of any and all priests who molested again after being recyled. And ditto the names of any and all clergy and/or bishops who treated victims with contempt or disdain.
It was all swept under the rug. It’s a cover-up.
And there’s another in the offing. And CBC came up with this interview.
Anyway, I will see what I can do tomorrow evening to wrap it up and get it posted.
I have another name to add to the Accused list: Oblate priest Father Georges Chevrier (deceased). I will get a page together early next week. I talked to a Chevrier victim yesterday.
For those who may have missed the comment I posted: Father Rene Labelle’s Preliminary Hearing has been scheduled for 20 February 2013. Yes, that’s February 2013.
As I said when I posted it, that a long long wait for those who found the courage to come forward. And that’s just the Preliminary Hearing. If it goes to trial it will probably be several more months downstream after the prelim. And, I repeat, keep them in or prayers.
JH posted that he/she is also parrying for Father Labelle. That’s good. I don’t ask for prayers for the accused priests specifically because there is generally no lack of prayers for an accused priest, but a dearth of them for the complainants.
Enough for now,
