Three years

Three years for Redemptorist priest FatherRaymond-Marie Lavoie who is known to have sexually abused at least 13 young lads in the 70s and 80s.

10 February 2012:  Quebec priest sentenced to three years in jail for sex assaults

Is three years suffice?  I don’t think so.  It’s not even close.  But, at least he’s going to spend a little time behind bars to meditate on his sins and crimes and on the immense damage he  wrought every time he laid a wayward hand on a boy.

He will have time in jail to pray for his many victims – I hope it uses it well.

The question now is:  have his Redemptorist superiors put the wheels in motion to have this convicted predator laicized/defrocked?  If not, why not?

Four more lawsuits launched today by victims of Basilian convicted molester Father William Hodgson Marshall.  The defendants in the suit are: Basilian Fathers of Toronto, Catholic Bishop Ronald Fabbro and the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.  There is a short article in the Windsor Star.  I am sure we will learn more shortly:

10 February 2012: Sexual Assault Victims Sue William Hodgson Marshall, Catholic Church

Hod’s parole hearing by the way is 27 March.  Given that he is currently in jail in nearby Joyceville I think it will probably be in Kingston.  Once I know the details I will pass them along.

He also will be appearing in an Ontario court sometime in the not too distant future to answer to the new charges in Saskatoon.  That too will probably be in Kingston.  Again, when I know more I will pass on the word.

I’ve posted two more pdf files from the Vatican Sex Abuse Conference which was held this week in Rome.

09 February 2012: Cardinal Reinhard Marx presentation at Vatican Sex Abuse Symposium “Church, Abuse and Pastoral Leadership”

09 February 2012:  Prof Dr Jorh Fegert Prof Dr Hubert Liebhardt presentation at Vatican Abuse Symposium:  “The Centre of Child Protection 09 February 2012″

Re the Centre for Child Protection, check this link and browse the site.  I wish I were thrilled at the prospect of such a centre.  I am not. I hope and will be only too happy to eat my words.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

3 years is not enough for damn sure. When our pervert was sentenced to 2 and a half years on 32 charges from 13 altar servers, I went into a long depression and extreme anger. I still can’t believe that was all he got. It doesn’t surprise me that this guy got a similar sentence…disgusts me all the same. What kind of recipe do judges use?? Bravo to those 13 abused who stood up against him…I know what you have gone through.

  2. Sylvia says:

Yes, PJ, 3 years is no more that a ‘Tut tut, bad boy”! Sad to say, in Canada three years is a ‘stiff’ sentence. Most get 2 years less a day or less. Basilian priest Hod Marshall got 2 years in Windsor Ontario – for the sex abuse of 16 boys and one young woman. Marshall also bargained in a sweet deal to his guilty plea: no more charges in Ontario.

So, yes, what exactly is the recipe?

Thankfully the sweet deal did not extend to Saskatoon Saskatchewan where, on 07 February 2012, new charges were laid against convicted molester Father William Hodgson Marshall csb.

Bravo to all who stand up against their molester, you, the Lavoie victims, the Marshall victims – Bravo to ALL of you! out there who have come forward.

A link to a site which has video clips from the presentations given at Vatican Sex Abuse Conference in Rome. The clips are short but they do give us chance to put faces to the presenters: http://thr.unigre.it/vescovi2012/en-gb/presspublic/press/video.aspx

I just heard that the Crown was seeking 8 years and will appeal the sentence. Hallelujah, and hats off to the Crown!

I’m going to find and post an article with that info. Once done I will also link it here.

I weep tears of sadness for the loss of the life of J F Cote. The terrible trauma he had to live with, finally became too much to bear. What a waste of a Life, burdened with a secret he could not name, but one that haunted him for most of his short life.
This heavy Cross he carried led him to become so distraught that he took that ultimate step…………….Please God look kindly on this soul and show him Mercy and Peace

  6. Glen says:

Perhaps citizens should organize and demand tougher sentences for child abuse including pornography.

  7. Glen says:

Sylvia, the first link isn’t working.

  8. Sylvia says:

Thanks Glen. I fixed it – should be alright now 🙂
