Court dates

Monsignor Roger Bazin has a scheduled court date in Barrie Ontario this morning.  I don’t know where the proceedings against him are at.

Bazin you may recall is a former Chaplain General of the Canadian Armed Forces.  He rose to attain the rank of Brigadier General while he served with the military. After the charges were laid in February of this year word got out that in 2005 there had been a $24,000 pay-off in relation to other allegations of sex abuse against Bazin. Those allegations relate to time Bazin served post-retirement from the military as a parish priest in the Diocese of Thunder Bay Ontario. The current criminal charges relate to Bazin’s time with the military in Barrie, Ontario.  Bazin is and always has been incardinated in the Diocese of St. Boniface Manitoba.

There has been a concerted effort on, I would say, political grounds, to have the buggery charge against Bazin dropped.  I pray that has not happened. If Bazin sodomized a young boy when buggery was in the criminal code then he broke the law of the land and the charges should stand.

There has been a dearth of media to date – I hope at least one reporter is in the courtroom today to bring us up to date on what is happening.

Ex-priest and convicted child molester Don Grecco should be attending his  a bail hearing this morning. Grecco allegedly breached conditions of his release.  His sentencing hearing is scheduled for 28 October.  I think it would be best to keep him in custody until the 29th but somehow doubt that will happen.

Thanksgiving weekend in Canada is two days away.  I was off shopping bright and early this morning to beat the crowds – still have to head back out to pick up a turkey, but at least I’ve got the makings for the trimmings 🙂

Enough for now,

Sylvia
