6 DAYS TO FREEDOM DAY:  04 October 2008.

Time served behind bars for caring about children and losing faith in the administration of justice:

225 days

Perry served a six month sentence for civil contempt of court!!!  He is now serving an additional 30 day sentence for criminal contempt of court. No early release.  Unlike other inmates Perry will serve every single day.

This is the institutional response to allegations of childhood sexual abuse.

I visited Perry on Friday.  A good visit.  He is in good cheer.

No more Sundays behind bars for Perry.  Today (Sunday 28 September 2008) is the last!

Only six more days!!!

There are a number of people who want be there to see Perry walk through those prison gates a free man.  I don’t know the details yet.  As soon as I have something definite time wise I will pass it along.   My oh my, what a glorious moment that will be J  I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

While visiting Perry I was able to see Keith Ouellette through the window.  He looked so terrible forlorn and dejected.  I’ve never seen him quite like that.  We waved.  No big smile.  So unusual.  Keith can be down, and he can be upset, but usually there’s a smile.

I spoke to Keith’s friend who was visiting him.  She is concerned about him.  Very concerned.

Poor dear Keith.  I can not for the life of me fathom what will be gained by having him locked up.  I fear that a month behind bars will send him right over the edge.  He was certainly getting increasingly agitated over the past weeks – upset by Perry’s incarceration, and upset with the inquiry.  Now this.

I dare not say what is on my mind.  I need to collect my thoughts. Enough for nowSylvia

The Canadian justice system has a terrible record when it comes to handling people with emotional concerns. If Keith needs to be removed from society (although I’ve met him several times and I believe he poses no genuine threat to anyone … in fact, I’m pretty certain he wouldn’t deliberately hurt a fly) perhaps he would be better housed in a therapeutic setting where he would have sympathetic ears to listen and someone who might actually be able to offer him some comfort and understanding.
Jail is not where Keith belongs. Another example of a justice system incapable of properly administering justice.
I’m pleased Perry has just a few days left. I wish I could be there when he takes his first steps of freedom after so long behind bars. I will await that day’s blog, Sylvia, with bated breath. Please take some photos so those of us far away can see his face after all these months and perhaps share a little in his joy.

I too feel Keith poses no genuine threat to anyone – he wouldn’t hurt a fly. Jail will exacerbate, not ameliorate, his problems.

And, yes, I will stand at that gate on Saturday with camera in hand 🙂

Shawna and Myself will also be waiting anxiously for the pictures. Shawna wants to see Perry looking like a hippi. Thanks Sylvia for keeping us all up to date!

  4. Sylvia says:

Tell Shawna Perry’s an engaging and charming cross between a hippie and Rip Van Winkle 🙂

Tell Shawna that she can now call him Perrywinkle. Wish that I could be out there to take in that homecoming.

    HA HA HA!!! Perrywinkle

I do like your sense of humour!!!

Keep your spirits up – I wish I could be there too!
Hold him tight Helen – cause you certainly have one amazing man!!!

  7. Laurie Johnson says:

Humm all this time behind bars and he comes out with the nickname “Perrywinkle” hehehe

  8. Reality Checker says:

….and the irony – with the true meaning of “Perrywinkle” – they have a tough shell that is hard to crack !!! 🙂

Reality Checker: Leave it to you to find out the true meaning of the nickname. That would be why I love you so much. Good to have you on our side.
