Why four years?

9 DAYS TO FREEDOM DAY:  04 October 2008.

Time served behind bars for caring about children and losing faith in the administration of justice:

222 days

Perry served a six month sentence for civil contempt of court!!!  He is now serving an additional 30 day sentence for criminal contempt of court. No early release.  Unlike other inmates Perry will serve every single day.

This is the institutional response to allegations of childhood sexual abuse.

****

Perry is down to single digits now 🙂  Nine days!!!

****

I had to be out and about all day today.  Will be gone most of tomorrow too.

****

Two newspaper articles of interest posted.  I believe both speak for themselves.

(1)  Note that in Parish priest charged: Catholic cleric alleged to have touched boys Father Budiman was removed from all priestly ministry, but he was still a priest with the Archdiocese of Vancouver.  That’s when the second “alleged incident” incident transpired.

Remember here that we have been told ad nauseam that Canadian Church officials  prefer not to defrock clerical sexual predators because that way they, officials, keep an eye on them.  I don’t know and can’t find an outcome to Budiman’s charges, but it certainly looks like keeping an eye on him was insufficient protection for his second “alleged”victim.

(2) As for Brother of Marc Cardinal Ouellet charged with sex crimes, what can I say?  Four years!!  It took a four-year-investigation for police to charge the Cardinal Archbishop of Quebec city’s brother.

Why four years? Why did it take four long years to charge the man?  I hope it had nothing to do with his brother being the Cardinal Archbishop of Quebec city.

Enough for now

So proud of the victims who are standing up to the Church and letting them know that they cannot continue letting these crimes go on unheard:

    *BIG HUGS*

  2. Mike Blum says:

Grecco apperared today in Picton and it was adjourned again, next appearance is Friday Nov 5 in Belleville “A” court.

  3. arlene says:

Way to go James!!!! When will Grecco,Wingle and the Diocese have to respond to the first lawsuit?? Is there a certain time period in which they have to respond to the lawsuit??

  4. niel capasso says:

about Fr. Kneale and the person who accused him of being a sick man…although I do agree in part to this but was not the person who Fr. Kneale had a consensual one time affair with not previously had been abused by a family member as noted in the standard..I against sexual abuse one hundred percent…but the law suits and money exchange bothers me..my father of happy memories use to say money makes the blind see.

  5. I saw Grecco in court November 3, 2010. He could not be released so he remains in custody until Friday when it is expected he will arrange suitable surety and then be cut loose. I photographed him as he left court.

  6. Sylvia says:

Thank you so much Thomas. I took the liberty of posting the picture on the Donald Grecco page. I hope that’s alright with you? It’s good advertising for you plus allows one and all to see how Donald Grecco’s time in Quinte has treated him

  7. You are welcome. I’ll be trying to get a better pic of him in the morning.

  8. Sylvia says:

Good. We are awating the outcome. And, thanks again.

  9. Sylvia says:

Here it is – an explanation as to why Grecco will probably be sprung free today and the breach charge is dealt with:

It is believed he will be set free from jail at that time, having served sufficient pre-trial custody to cover whatever sentence could be imposed for having breached his bail on the sex assault charges.

Quote from 05 November 2010: Defrocked priest faces lawsuit

  10. I was in court today. Grecco seemed to be protected from view when he arrived today. He was looking to be released from custody in Belleville today but conveniently left his wallet at Quinte Detention Centre. After his quasi release, Grecco jumped into the back of the transport van with his head covered by his jacket. He was transported back to the Napanee detention facility. I saw his transport van arrive. I waited. I did not see him leave the facility. Was he removed from QDC by the same vehicle that he was delivered in? I wonder. The judge ordered that Grecco be released from QDC rather than Belleville. On Sat Nov 6,2010 Grecco will move once again to another place where he must advise OPP he is residing.

  11. Post Script….For now, Grecco is not in custody.

  12. Sylvia says:

Thank you for that info Thomas. Much appreciated.

So, Donald Grecco, a convicted child molester, is out and about again. And, …who knows where?

  13. Reality Checker says:

Some of his release conditions include staying away from areas where children might be such as playgrounds and swimming pools. He is also barred from being around children under the age of 16 unless they are aware of his charges.

I gather he can’t stay with Kneale or his old place in Picton – Kneale lives across the street from a high school and the Picton address is across the street from an elementary school.

Too bad…..at least the children in those areas are SAFE (we hope)

  14. Sylvia says:

“He is also barred from being around children under the age of 16 unless they are aware of his charges.” Isn’t that just a little odd? ]

Why the addendum: “unless they are aware of his charges”?

  15. The high school in Grimsby is not across the street. The Kneale residence from Grimsby High School is rather far down the street and around the corner. He did however live across the street from an elementary school in Picton for about 10 years. He may have been in Prince Edward County Nov 5-6 2010 but was rumored to go out of town on the 6th. Stay tuned for that address. It may be of concern.

  16. Sylvia says:

I am intrigued Thomas. My first thought is that he will be in a home in the presence of a child or children under age 16. Try as I might I can think of no other reason to come up with such a ridiculous release condition.

What does a ten-year-old boy understand of this man’s conviction?

  17. Reality Checker says:

Thomas – the Kneale residence is across the street from the football field of Grimsby high school and the entrance to the back parking lot where the kids park. It may not be directly across the street to the main building of the high school but it is certainly within very close proximity!!!

  18. Reality Checker says:

He’s about 4-5 houses down from the enterance to that back parking lot of Grimsby High

  19. You are correct. When I played football there as a child the area was inaccessible from that road. The entrance is new. One had to drive near the front doors of the high school and travel west along the north side of the school to enter that field. It looks like a new patch of asphalt to extend the parking lot as well. Good eye.

  20. There were other conditions than those. To many to list. But yes, it is ridiculous when one thinks of the stipulation in and of itself. The last paragraph of this link speaks to the restriction somewhat.
    http://www.intelligencer.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2833898

  21. Reality Checker says:

Uh Thomas….you inadvertantly gave your age away!!!

    🙂

  22. For many years Grecco lived across the street from Queen Elizabeth School in Picton, Ontario. Very troubling.

Google it. Go to street view. Navigate west along Barker. Observe children playing on the right.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=30+Barker,+Picton,+Ontario&sll=44.009346,-77.146026&sspn=0.006783,0.015492&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=30+Barker+St,+Prince+Edward,+Prince+Edward+Division,+Ontario,+Canada&ll=44.009369,-77.145985&spn=0.006752,0.015492&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=44.009405,-77.145901&panoid=7FKynRyY0jKuIbTF-vMiaw&cbp=12,246.84,,0,6.06

I’ll not repeat the exact address as his ex-wife has suffered a great deal and is not the convicted criminal. Grecco is.

No reports of wrongdoing came from his being there for that time period.

Grecco will be sentenced eventually. Grecco will be out of police custody with conditions.

No matter where Grecco ends up residing he’s forever going to be relatively near vulnerable people.

Meanwhile, I’ll continue filming Grecco and others like him.

  23. RC…relative age. I’ll be fifty next year. Sometime.

  24. Reality Checker says:

Thomas – then when you were playing football at Grimsby High when you were a child you would realize that back parking lot was never inaccessible from ‘that road’ – it’s just that the gates may have been locked.

Been that way since I remember and I’m older than you. 🙂

  25. arlene says:

So…has Grecco transplanted himself to Niagara????? Or somewhere else???

  26. RC…Seems to me (memory at my waning age failing and all) that we could only get onto that field from a footpath at the south west corner or the way I mentioned earlier. I don’t remember the gates. Slept since then. *grins*

arlene…My investigation into the travels and whereabouts of Grecco and the information I discovered is now in the hands of my supervisor at CTV. As I said in an earlier post, it’s troubling where I believe he might be staying for the next while.

The place he was supposed to go was not Niagara and it can’t be Haldimand. He’s somewhere else.

The police will keep an eye on him.

Let’s hope that when Grecco is sentenced he must give a sample of his DNA and make his place of residence known to everyone…forever.

  27. Reality Checker says:

Thomas – think about it – the buses used to pick us up to the west of the main entrance of the school (by the technology department)- we used to hang out under the large enclosure to the west of the main entrance waiting for the bus (the smoking area)- the buses came from the back of the school and drove east through a small laneway – that wasn’t a foot path you refer to at the south east corner – it was a lane way big enough for cars and buses to pass through.

  28. Reality Checker says:

My investigation into the travels and whereabouts of Grecco and the information I discovered is

now in the hands of my supervisor at CTV.

So ….Thomas – I would take it you’re some type of journalist/producer and someone is going to take this story on???

    If so….good for you!!!

  29. I’m talking about the gate we used to sometimes go through off highway eight (regional 81 now) at the south west corner of the football field. No matter.

Wouldn’t buses have just come from that way after turning around in the parking lot so they could just drive straight out? Just thinkin.

By the by…my sisters went to school there as did my wife. I only played football in the summer and March Break basketball camp there.

My very first job was in Gumby, working for Ed Smith picking fruit. There was only a half dozen classrooms at Hagar public school then. It’s been a bunch of things since then. We used to borrow grapes from the adjacent vineyard in the fall. Slide on the ice at recess. I auditioned for Howard Cable at Hagar. Years later, I performed for Cable as an adult at The Rebecca Cohn in Halifax and never got to tell him it was me. I was in love…with JoAnne Enklar. I miss tobogganing down Baines hill between the cherry trees and those Peach Bar milkshakes. I was a young member of the polar bear club and got my very first RLSS cert at Centennial pool early one frigid spring morning and attended Cubs on Thursdays just up the path from there. My stepfather challenged me to a footrace along there one time. There was a creek in that valley. I thought he was too old to run fast. He won. After all, he was a cop. I miss Turners Garden Variety, Wolverton Mountain and the hours I spent hiking along the Bruce Trail. Salamanders, sleepovers and The Roxy. Grimsby hospital gave the best care when one needed it. Still does. My granddaughter was born there coupla years ago. I oft wonder and ponder fondly the friends I left behind. Perhaps they’re doing the same.

It was different then. We hadn’t a care in the world.

  30. What I am is still to be determined but lets just say…

    I’m a contributor. For now.

  31. Newfoundland Dog says:

Thomas Harris ,we make beautiful art from these types of reminiscences here in NL. I haven’t a clue about where you’re talking about, but I loved it! This is the type of stuff that was robbed from child victims of sexual abuse by priests and others so it is very relevant and I’m sure Sylvia will understand that this conversation in no way pollutes her site. Once again, I loved it on a couple of different levels!

  32. Sylvia says:

You’re right Newfoundland Dog. You’re right. Different times, different places, different names, but I’m sure it’s a wee trip down memory lane for many of us. A little healthy nostalgia is good for the soul. Coming as it does from the man who was good enough to give us our last picture of concited molester Donald Grecco, I’m loving it.

Reality Checker, you winder what Thomas Harris does. Cleck on his name.

Thomas, what a god-send to have someone like you keeping an eye on the whereabouts of Grecco. A big thank you 🙂

  33. It is truly an honour. With much gratitude, thank you.

  34. Reality Checker says:

Thomas Harris – come on on jar my memory – I or my sisters had to of known you – your wife – or her sisters and quite possibly played together as youngsters!!!

    Heather looks familiar.

  35. Reality Checker says:

…and you’re right. I know where you are refering to off hwy 8….I got my directions mixed up (east vs west)

  36. Reality Checker says:

Tell me more about Hagar School, Turner’s and Wolverton…..did you go to Hagar???
I went to Smith in grades 7-8

  37. Sylvia says:

Thomas ands Reality Chcker: How be I pass on your email addresses to each other? No need to reveal your personal information in this forum. Would you agree?

  38. Anyone may e-mail me through my website.

  39. Sylvia says:

Thanks Reality Checker. I have it posted now

A question here to clarify. A similar article on CKTB News says “Grecco will [be] back in court on November 30 on the counts of gross indecency.” Is that yet another court date? or is it an error? I think it’s an error and should be 26 November, but….there’s so many court dates floating around here that all things are possible.

  40. Sylvia says:

Thanks Mike. It’s now posted on the site

It will be interesting to see how the new bishop handles your lawsuit.

  41. Mike Blum says:

Grecco’s sentencing has been changed to Dec 13 at 10 am in courtroom 302 at John Sopinka courthouse. One day sooner.
    Mike

  42. Sylvia says:

Thanks Mike. I will make note of that. I wonder why the change?

  43. Mike Blum says:

    Hi Sylvia,
It has to do with when the Judge is available.

  44. Two days after that he’ll be back in Picton.

Mike Blum: I was hoping that you might contact me through my website hotlink. Cheers, Thomas.

  45. Mike Blum says:

    Thomas… I have sent you a couple of e-mails
    Mike

  46. Sylvia says:

A new article: 17 November 2010: Disgraced ex priest paying own legal bills

Monsignor Kirkpatrick said it’s “unlikely” that Grecco is still receiving a pension from the Church?

    Unlikely?

Is he or isn’t it? Surely there are records and it can’t be that hard to figure out?

  47. Sylvia says:

I have it posted: 26 November 2010: Crown wants Grecco jailed up to four years

Yes, he should indeed spend time behind bars.

Was anything at all said about where he’s living? I can’t believe this man has been convicted and is allowed to be out and about like this. Do the next door neighbours know that he’s a convicted molester? Do the people across the street know? Does anyone in the neighborhood where he’s currently living know? Did anyone tell them?

  48. arlene says:

My thoughts will be with the victims tomorrow as Grecco’s sentence is handed down…….let’s hope for justice and peace for the victims of this vile man.

  49. Sylvia says:

Yes, Arlene. Let’s hope and pray for justice and peace for the victims.

My thoughts and prayers are with all you victims and your families who have waited so long for this day to come.

  50. Sylvia says:

A good article in today’s Hamilton Spectator: 13 December 2010: Victims want abusive ex-priest jailed

    Note:

his lawyer said the breach is in connection with the two weeks Grecco spent recuperating at Quinte Gardens Retirement Residence.

It looks as though that will be the defence on the breach?!!!

What about finding Grecco residing at the residence of convicted clercial molester Father James Kneale?

  51. Victim - James Hennessy says:

18 months. What a joke. In the UK a similar offender got 21 years. If I was a sex offender, I know where I would be going after children.

  52. Me says:

Our justice system is an absolute joke.

To the victims, I know this is no consolation, but just believe that he will be judged by his maker, and it will be no slap on the wrist.

I know I don’t only speak for myself, but I am inspired by the courage it took for you and the othe victims to speak out against this atrocity. You may feel it wasn’t worth it, but your courage and strength of character will may others the strength to come forward and fight against this type of injustice.

I send you great big hugs and thank you for not giving up. It’s not the outcome you wanted, but it’s definitely better than house arrest. Hang in there and keep your chin up…you are appreciated 🙂

  53. Sylvia says:

Yes James, what a joke. “Tut tut, Donnie Bad boy!”

To be very honest, like Me no doubt, I had great fears that he would wind up with house arrest. In Canada those outraged by the judicial leniency exhibited toward child molesters are thankful if a molester actually sees the inside of a jail for even a a few months. How sad is that?

So, 18 months. “Good” behaviour and he’ll be out and about in a matter of months.

James, Mike and other victims, here in Canada we must for the time being be thankful for very small mercies – Grecco will actually spend time behind bars. Beyond that, there is much work to be done. It’s high time our judiciary stops treating child molesters with kid gloves, and it’s high time our laws were changed to reflect claims that childen are our most presious asset and that child sexual abuse is an abominable crime.

But, for now and for you the battle is over. You victims stood strong and did what had to be done. Grecoo is forever a convicted child molester. He will spend time behind bars. Thank God for small mercies.

Well done all of you :).

  54. Sylvia says:

Article in the Hamilton Spectator posted:

13 December 2010: Ex-priest jailed 18 months on sex charges

  55. Big Sis says:

I am truly sad to be a Canadian today,…the way that our country deals with crime is beyond sad. We do not protect our children, we do not hold those that commit crimes accountable. We should all hang our heads in shame, then slowly raise them again and start to DEMAND that justice be done. Every politician rides on a platform that they will be tougher on crime,…WHEN????? They say that to be tougher our jails will be over crowded,..so? And only for a while,..eventually criminals will go elsewhere to commit the crimes and injustices. MAKE your local politicians hear you, make the federal politicians listen, and for the Catholics, make your priest understand that this will not be tolerated, victims WILL be listen to. If we all show even a little of the strengh that these victims showed we can help make changes!!!

  56. arlene says:

When does he appear for the breach of residency? And Sylvia, you make reference that he was living with convicted pedophile James Kneale????

  57. Sylvia says:

He appears in Belleville on Wednesday on the breach charge. I don’t know the time. Does anyone have it?

And yes, reports were that he was living with Kneale. Living with a convicted molester apparently is not a violation, the violation comes from the fact that that is not the address he had given to the courts as his residence while on bail.

Grecco, Kneale and Knight were good friends

    I’ve just posted another article:

13 December 2010: Former priest sentenced to jail for sex assaults

  58. Mike Blum says:

My take ….. 18 months, YES, he is where is where he should be, from early on in this case I was told house arrest was going to be the max. This story about Grecco is not over!!!!!
    Mike

  59. STB says:

Everyone uses the word Victim but my prefered term is Survivor. I am extremely happy that my friend has gotten closure out of this. He has been able to let go of his anger and has taken what I believe is an important step to regaining his life. The whole idea behind this was to do just that. As HJM said way back “get you through from victim to survivor and ultimately thrive”. Grecco is in jail tonight and for many nights to come because you came forward. Others coming forward will keep him there and hopefully that will help them take back control of their lives as well. Grecco will never again have the unearned respect, admiration and position of authority he has enjoyed in his career. His life has come full circle and is destroyed by his own actions and the “survivors” calling him to account for them. I think you guys should be very proud of the courage it took to shine some light on a very dark chapter in your lives.

  60. Gina McIntee says:

Brovo STB…”well said”…I too would consider my husband a “survivor” more then a “victim!” I have not travelled the full 30 years however we have felt trauma and the ripple effects of “Father Grecco.” The accountablilty is foremost and the journey has lead us to the conclusion of 18 months. Personally I am thankful for the professionalism of the OPP and the Crown Attorney…they were our strength when we were weak! I cried many of nights in a bad place and who answered my call?! My family and myself have walked with a man that was a boy and lived the hurt from the hands of “Father Grecco” and the warranted means of the Catholic Church….we are still here 🙂
Until the people stand up and demand change… “regarding silence and movement” we will continue to see 18 months. At this point in the year 2010 we are seeing strength, movement and hope! It is your voice at the end of the phone….that gave me my strength….that kept him here!!!!!!!

“We are stronger then a bundle then a twing.”
    Gina

  61. arlene says:

What happened with his breach of residency appearance or did it not take place??

  62. Sylvia says:

Yes. Can anyone gives us any news on the breach? I won’t be able to check on it until after Christmas – if anyone could fill us in it would be greatly appreciated.

    Mike, do you know anything?

  63. Sylvia says:

    Finally. news on the breach:

    05 January 2011: Grecco needn’t appear: judge
