16 DAYS TO FREEDOM DAY:  04 October 2008.

Time served behind bars for caring about children and losing faith in the administration of justice:

215 days.

Perry served a six month sentence for civil contempt of court!!!  He is now serving an additional 30 day sentence for criminal contempt of court. No early release.  Unlike other inmates Perry will serve every single day.

This is the institutional response to allegations of childhood sexual abuse.

Out and about all day yesterday (Wednesday, 17 September 2008), but time to visit Perry.   Good visit.  He is well, and counting the days.  Pretty soon it’s down to fingers and toes 🙂

By the way, that five-legged fly maybe didn’t get out after all.  He was back between the two panes of glass in Perry’s cell yesterday.  And it was him:  three legs on one side, two on the other.  Where he disappeared to for that little spell is an unknown.  Perry was convinced he was gone.  But, there he was.  Back.  Trapped between those two panes of glass.  Still very much alive.  A mystery 🙂

Yesterday Perry had yard, a shower, canteen and several pieces of mail.  All in one day.  A big day!

My how his life will change after 04 October. It’s going to be quite a re-adjustment.  Feel like a shower?  Hop in the shower.  Want a little fresh air and sunshine?  Step out the door.  Have a yen for a snack?  Open the fridge door.  Craving a chocolate bar?  Zip off to the store.

And then there’s TV.  And radio.  And the computer.

And family!

And friends!

Freedom.

I must admit I am getting excited for Perry, and Helen, and the girls, and Perry’s Mom, and his sister.

Freedom! It’s been a long time coming.

I am doing some catch up in my personal life.  Lots of things which needed doing getting done 🙂  Off to the dentist in the morning 🙁

Keep an eye on New to the Site on the Home page.  As I buzz about I am trying to at least get the media articles posted.

I have lots I want to say and little time to say it right now.

Note the Cardinal Archbishop of Montreal has declared a priest you and I would call a clerical paedophile is not a paedophile at all – ‘ he made a mistake’!  And note where De Maupeou is now.  In Ottawa.  Another paedophile at St. Paul University.   Some day when I get a moment or two I must compile a list of the clerical sexual predators whom I know have graced the halls of St. Paul University.  I assure you there has been more than one or two.

And he’s studying canon law!!!

Do the parents of Ottawa know he’s there?

Dear Lord have mercy on us!!  Spare us and protect our children from priests who ‘ just made a mistake,’ and from Cardinals and archbishops and bishops who make excuses for them

****

Note too the allegations from St. Stanislaus in Australia.  Of particular interest note the defence claim that the whole thing is nothing but a witch hunt.

Sound familiar?

****

And then there’s the article about the two little foster boys in the Cornwall area who apparently ran away from their foster home.  Did your skin crawl?   Mine did.  I trust that an in depth investigation is under way.  I can’t imagine that I am the only with questions.  Why did those children leave?  Assuming they left voluntarily, why did two little boys leave the comfort of their foster home? I trust – I hope – I pray those children haven’t been – aren’t – returned until a thorough investigation has been conducted.

Seems to me when it comes to protecting our children, as much as we are told things are evolving for the better worldwide the more they seem to stay the same.  Examples:

– A Cardinal-Archbishop makes excuses for a clerical paedophile.

– A defence lawyer proclaims his clients’ innocence while demeaning the victims.

– And two little Cornwall area foster boys disappear from their foster home.

****

A final note on media.  It looks like politics prevailed and the selection committee for AM 1220’s  Greatest Cornwallite – Past has excluded Perry Dunlop from the final vote.  Joe St. Denis made it through.  Is that the former Deputy Chief of Police?  I’m guessing it is, but not 100% certain.

Anyway I must say I’m not totally surprised Perry was excluded.  Disappointed? Yes.  Surprised?  No.  I had a hunch Perry’s name would never make it through to the final cut

The committee is comprised of Citizen of the Year, Roy Perkins, former school trustee, Joe Gunn, and Corus Entertainment General Manager, Scott Armstrong.

Enough for now,

Sylvia

I see they are planning on bringing in AFN Chief Phil Fontaine to talk at the Canadian Conference of Bishops being held in Cornwall sometime towards the end of the month. Apparently he is to address and speak on the very public apology in the House by the Harper government made to the residential school survivors – an apology that has been years in the making and was so so badly needed. I realize this is all a political ploy and posturing however, I don’t think it’s that bad of an idea to have Fontaine speak to the Bishops IF the Bishops and whoever are sincere in offering an apology to the victims of clerical sexual abuse in and around the Cornwall area. There are parellels in the native residential school abuses and the clerical sexual abuse scandels that have happened. To date there has been no sincerity in any apology offered to any victim of clerical sexual abuse in parishes throughout Canada. You have to ADMIT it is a problem. You have to ADMIT that it did happen. You have tell the public WHO the offenders were. You have to tell the public WHO the victims were (and I don’t necessarily mean naming names)…you have to take responsibility. In other words take the bull by the horns – ADMIT that sexual abuses DID happen by clerical pedofiles. Without an admission of wrong doing there is absolutely NO sincerity in any apology offered.

Will we ever get an admission that something DID Happen to these children???

Remember – all David Silmser ever ever asked for was for an apology.

    He’s STILL waiting.

Why has one not been forthcoming???

A heck of a lot of problems for the Catholic Church and their Bishops could have been prevented IF ONLY…

Take heed of what Chief Fontaine tells you…a sincere apology to the victims of clerical sexual abuse and an admission of guilt is not going to fix all the problems but it will be a start. The government of Canada has taken full reponsibility for the residential school abuses that occured over years to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada…They ADMITTED it happened and they were wrong…they have taken full responsibility. It is TIME FOR the Catholic Church and Bishops to do the same – offer a sincere apology and ADMIT to the mistakes.

It is time for David Silmser and many others to get their much awaited for apology!!!

BTW….the Catholic Church has a treatment facility for their priests – SOUTHDOWN. I’m sure lots of $$$ goes into that place.

Does the Catholic Church have a treatment facility for the victims??? NO. WHY NOT???

The church has unlimited cash and resources to defend their priests and get them treatment…millions and millions…yet little for the victims.

Maybe they should think about a specialized treatment facility for the victims – a retreat focused on healing. It certainly would be a nice offering and show sincerity in an apology. I think there should be a treatment facility for the victims – paid for by the Catholic Church and as large and reputable as SOUTHDOWN… and as much money put into it as SOUTHDOWN.

After all – there are 2 sides in all of this!!!

    Just posted the Fontaine article:

    http://www.theinquiry.ca/CCCB_Fontaine.hide.php

In the Church an ‘apology’ to God in confession given without true contrition has no merit. Let’s hope and pray that whatever episcopal apologies are or may be in the offing are offered with true contrition.

That’s great idea RealityChecker – a specialized treatement centre for victims of clerical sexual abuse. My only thought there is is that it should be financed by “the Church” and, for obvious reasons, operated independently.

    I agree!!!

  5. Nellie says:

Could we please consider using the term sex offenders for those priests who abuse the young and the vulnerable? This term is more inclusive and better covers the problem. Pedophile is a term describing the sexual abuse of prepubescent children. Many experts believe that abuse of children is the smaller subset of victims, the next biggest are teens and the largest group is thought to likely be vulnerable adults (over age 18) many of whom were receiving counseling or pastoral support during a vulnerable time. Their vulnerability made exploitation possible that would not have been possible under other circumstances.
