They did it!

They did it!  The Cornwall police did it!!!  They sure do know how to have their cake and eat it too!!!

The tax payers of Ontario are picking up the tab for the Cornwall Police Service to ensure it can pay and retain its high-priced lawyer to defend its “good” institutional name.

No need now for the citizens of Cornwall to get up in arms over the rapidly escalating costs of defending the  “honour” of the Cornwall police.  No need for further explanations regarding the $250,000/monthly payments to John Callaghan for services rendered.  How much of that neat figure goes into Callaghan’s pocket I have no idea, but I have a vague sense that it’s a pretty penny or two.

So there you have it. The tax payers of Ontario will pay the legal bill for the Cornwall Police Service.  Just like that.  No ifs, ands or buts – we WILL pick up the tab.

I’d say the Cornwall police has one upped us.  They have their money AND their high-priced lawyer.   Unlike other parties who applied for and received funding the Cornwall Police Service went it alone:  they weren’t bound by the restrictions of funding and they didn’t have to search for a lawyer with hourly fees toward the bottom of the heap to match the inquiry cap.  They retained their prima high-priced lawyer John Callaghan.  They have him.  They obviously can’t afford him.  But, thanks to the McGuinty government they don’t have to pay him. We’ll do it!!

Sheer genius at work here 🙂

Amazing isn’t it? The McGuinty government said we the tax payers of Ontario would pick up the tab to defend the “good” name of the Cornwall police service.  We have nothing better to do with our hard earned dollars than pay Callaghan to take pot shots at the victims, smear Perry Dunlop et al and defend the collective hides at the knee-deep-in-allegations-of-cover-up Cornwall Police Service.

They did it! They really did it!!!!

Tell me these people at Queen’s Park aren’t all talking with the folks at the inquiry and the folks at the police station and sorting out ways to make us believe this sow’s ear of an inquiry is really a silk purse?  Tell me this isn’t an attempt to pay-off and hush the unwitting people of Cornwall who are less than happy with the rapidly escalating legal bills at the inquiry?

And finally, for goodness sake remember this all you Ontario taxpayers when you cast your vote in the provincial election this Fall!

****

I have the list of lawyers posted.  The link is on the Home page.  I believe I have them all but will double check.  I am a bit concerned that perhaps the odd name is that of a paralegal who may have shown up at the Weave Shed to provide assistance.  If anyone can help me out there let me know.  Meanwhile I will Google a few of the names I question to see if I can confirm they are in fact lawyers.  Or perhaps I will trim the list down to those who are regulars or those I know for a fact were there as lawyers.  I will meditate on it…..

And that’s enough for now,

Sylvia

Absolutely outrageous. By “bailing out” the Cornwall Police Department and therefore The City of Cornwall, the Government of Ontario, is enabling a very dysfunctional “system, i.e.-The City and The Police”.
By paying “the bill”, The Police and The City, will go on and on and on, delay after delay, argument after argument, evasive manouvering, aggressive posturing and demeanours, with unlimited financial resources. There is no need to be, cost effective, accountable or responsible. However, what else is expected by a Police Department suspected by many as being corrupt. I am certain there are a few members of the Cornwall City Police and other Police Departments with important facts to disclose. Do you think they will personally get by the lawyers representing their employers and testify?? I think not.

    SILENCE:
Sylvia is “under attack.” She is yet again, unable to access her own website. This is how “socialism” and “the powers that be, the elitist ruling class” manage people, places and things, when facts about “the system” are disclosed and commented about. Disable “free speech and expression”, “publication bans”, “bogus criminal charges and civil litigations”, “confidentiality-non-disclosure settlements”, “misleading information given to the mainstream news media”,….does any resonable person “suspect” there is a “cover-up?”
    KEEP UP the fight Sylvia.

One thing about when you are dealing with Survivors is that their greatest strength is perseverance. They just keep getting back up despite all odds. 🙂

No surprise there, Sylvia. Look at the original application from the CPS.

Callaghan or Manderville could NOT make that decision.

The Cornwall Police Commission could NOT make that decision.

Only Cornwall City Council could make that decision and what I know of Phil Poirier he would NOT allow council to take such a risk without having some deal in place. Phil is NO RISK TAKER.

I don’t remember this issue being discussed by City council. Had to have been discussed IN CAMERA.

I’m surprised that no leaks occurred on that one. The divisive opinions of the councilors at that time would have made this a natural opportunity to make Poirier look bad. A lot of low wattage people sitting around that council table.

Who made the deal? Bryant is the logical choice. Phil would have only trusted a commitment made at that level.

I am not saying that Callaghan or Manderville did not have their grubby fingers in this pot. Their law firm is well connected to the Liberal party. Sheriff-Scott must be green with envy!!!!!!.
