It took a while but the Bishops of Alexandria-Cornwall are finally posted 🙂
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to post the entire grouping in a chart as planned – my software protested vehemently. I finally broke the file down and posted each bishop as an individual file. The information on each is very limited, however now that each file is posted as an individual unit I may decide to add more information in the days and weeks to come.
I believe however that there is enough information there to realize that the tiny Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall was making its mark on the face of Roman Catholicism in Canada a long time ago. For example, note that it was used as a stepping stone for Archbishop Plourde who became Archbishop of Ottawa after two short years in Alexandria-Cornwall as Auxiliary Bishop to Rosario Brodeur.
And note the connections to the Carter brothers – former Bishop Alexander Carter and his influential brother Emmett Cardinal Carter. (Incidentally each of the five bishops who were members of the Gang of Five – Flahiff, Pocock, Plourde and the Carters served a two-year-term as President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops)
But with the Cornwall Inquiry now under way – more or less – I find the most fascinating thing is the fact that the McGuinty government appointed a Roman Catholic commissioner whose (1) family is rooted in the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall (2) parents were married in St. Anne’s Church in Sudbury in 1948 and who (1) was born November 1954 and bred in Sudbury, (2) has himself raised a family in Sudbury, and (3) refuses to reveal if he is or ever was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
This, remember, is the judge who has already determined behind closed doors that the “rumour” and “innuendo” swirling around Cornwall are false.
Enough for now. I will scan and add pictures to “The Diocese” page later today. Sylvia
