An update on Dick Nadeau.
As you know, Dick was in the hospital critically ill a number of weeks ago. He was on the respirator, then off, then back on. I believe the last spell in ICU on the respirator lasted close to four weeks. He was finally taken off and transferred out to a regular ward about a week or ten days ago.
He was unable to swallow so was being fed via tube feedings. Last Wednesday he decided he’d had enough of hospital and agitated to get out – not unusual for Dick. He was discharged.
Friday evening Dick was rushed by ambulance to the Ottawa Hospital: General Campus.
I went in to see Dick today. When I arrived he was still in Emergency – once again engulfed in tubes, arms black and blue, hands swollen, every breath a rattle, pale as a ghost and blood pressure barely there – very very sick.
When I left he was being transported to ICU where, once again, he was to be intubated and put on the respirator.
Carmen was there. She is holding up amazingly well, but broke down as he was wheeled away. It’s been such an emotional roller coaster for them both for the past few months.
But something I must tell you that gave us a chuckle: Dick barely had the energy to say a word, and what he did say required energy and repetition, but guess what was on his mind as he and all of his tubes and paraphernalia were being rounded up for the trip to ICU? : “What’s going on in Cornwall?”
Carmen laughed and assured him: “You really don’t want to know.”
Amen!
Please keep them in your prayers, particularly on this Easter Sunday.
