Pope Benedict XVI said on Tuesday that the Church’s forgiveness could not replace the need for justice for victims of priestly paedophilia, as he began a four-day visit to Portugal.
Speaking to journalists aboard his flight from Rome, the 83-year-old pontiff said the Roman Catholic Church had a “profound need” to “learn forgiveness and also the necessity of justice,” underlining that “forgiveness does not replace justice.” – AFP
