I can’t decide if I should feel sorry for the aged [redacted] priest , or if I should continue to scratch my head in awe and wonder as to how a priest who took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience managed to accrue such a healthy bank account?
I initially thought perhaps the monies were from parish funds, but, no, it seems it was the priest’s personal account?
I have been told that the Carmelites are allowed to keep money inherited from family, but require permission from a religious superior to spend it. I have looked online and can find nothing.
Can’t quite fit this into “betrayal of trust and sexual abuse scandals – R.C. Church, Canada”. It appears this elder was grievously betrayed by someone he counselled and trusted.
1yellowknife, you’ve got a point…
Yes, 1yellowknife and PJ, you’re right. I should have taken a little more time to think about this before I posted it. Iwill remove the text of the article, the name of the order in my comment, and leave the remainder of the thread intact.
Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow 🙂
Actually, you are amazing, Sylvia. I knew you would give it a quick second look. Thanks!!
