A 81-year-old catholic priest has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl.

Paul McGennis pleaded guilty to eight sample counts of indecently assaulting the young girl in his home between June 1980 and May 1984.

McGennis has apologised to the woman for the torture he put through and for his initial denials.

So why did he lie? Why, on top of sexually abusing the girl, did he later lie? His lie made his victim look like the liar, did it not? In truth his initial “denials” were outright lies.

So sad what victims must often go through because of the outright lies of their molester. I do beleive that if there was an additional 5 years added to their sentencing for such lies they might be quicker to fess up at the beginning. That would spare the victim a lot of unnecessary additional agony and it would save a lot of $$$$s in prosecution costs.
