Regina Archdiocese Statement re charges against Nathan Labatt

Nathan Labatt – Charged by RCMP on the following charges:

·         Sexual exploitation, Section 153(1) CC

·         Invitation to sexual touching, Section 152 CC

·         Possession of child pornography, Section 163.1(4)

The Archdiocese of Regina, regrets to inform you that Nathan Labatt, a former volunteer in our Youth Ministry, has been charged with by the RCMP with the following charges 1)  Sexual exploitation, Section 153(1) CC, 2)  Invitation to sexual touching, Section 152 CC, and 3)   Possession of child pornography, Section 163.1(4).  The Archdiocese has been fully cooperating with the RCMP in their investigation.

None of the charges have been proven in court and none of them relate to programs or activities of the Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese is concerned about the impact that Nathan may have had on the youth that were directly or indirectly affected by his actions.  The Archdiocese of Regina has been in contact with the youth from our Archdiocese who were contacted for information during the investigation.  The Archdiocese of Regina has taken steps to ensure that the youth will receive any necessary supports.

Nathan was a Youth Volunteer with the Archdiocese from March 2009 until he was removed in January 2015.  All volunteers are required to provide a Police Criminal Record Check.  Nathan provided the Archdiocese a clean Criminal Record Check.  Upon receiving notification that Nathan was being investigated he, as a precautionary measure, was removed as a volunteer from all activities.
