Parishoners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will officially learn this weekend that a popular priest was convicted of committing sexual offences against two girls back in 1992.
The incidents occurred at two parishes in British Columbia in the 1970s.
Parish priest Stephen Liang tells CFRA that he was shocked to hear the news.
McCann has been celebrating mass without supervision almost every week, which, according to Liang, he shouldn’t be doing.
The parish priest adds that McCann has not had contact with children (most of the people in the parish are reported to be between the ages of 40 and 70 years old) and that McCann has never worked with the parish schools, something that has been confirmed by the Catholic board.
Although the Archdiocese would not comment, a spokesperson tells CFRA that they are in conversation with McCann’s supervisors, who would have been responsible for notifying the church.
Pass the buck!
This is unbelievable!!
